City's multi-million pound squad has been further strengthened this summer by the signings of Sergio Aguero, Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic, with Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri also targeted.

However, last season manager Roberto Martini highlighted a lack of players with first-team potential in the club's academy.

The frequency of articles on the BBC sports pages allowing current and ex united players to [s]relay messages from ferguson[/s] spout off about other clubs is extremely lazy journalism.

I'd say it is lazy journalism to allow football to dominate the sports pages when it isn't the football season, yes.

Well it is really - the SPL has started, all English leagues apart from the Premier start in two days, so interest in football is rising and those that follow it are reading the sports pages again.

Sorry.
