It's a "gentleman's wardrobe"...something like this:

It was made for us by a furniture company in Bristol - and the quality of the build is great - no complaints. It was made from new pine, and we were assured that the knots would be treated before painting. Anyway, coming up to around 10 months after we had it delivered, most of the knots are showing through as a yellowy-brown through the "off-white/creamy" colour paint finish (Eggshell).
I have a can of the paint used for it, as I have painted other furniture in the house the same colour, and I can't be arsed with the hassle of getting them to sort it out. If the knots are showing through, is that it now? Even if I do a fresh coat, will they just show through again?
Everything I've painted is fine 8) as I treat the knots twice, then primer/undercoat twice. Anyway, I feel as if I haven't come up with a proper first world problem in a while.
Hey, you some knotting which a shellac based solution designed to stop the resin coming through the paint. You only need to apply it to the stains. Hope this helps....
Cheers
As above Knotting from any paint shop or b and q.
Ah right...cool, thanks chaps. So I can apply the knotting solution (of which I have a can...the stuff in the copydex type tin with the cap with the brush attached) to the knots on the existing painted finish?
you need to get the existing finish of and back to bare timber then apply knotting, it will seal the knots and stop them soaking up the paint, think of a knot as a tree branch stub.

Bet you decorate with Farrow & Ball too doncha!? 😉
The normal knotting doesn't always work if your top coat is water based. I use Ronseal knot blocker primer now which seems to work. You can also use aluminium oxide primer I believe.
I've used aluminium paint as a primer and to seal knots. It goes on easily and takes the next coat well.
That's the shiny aluminium paint, I don't know about the aluminium oxide version.
Zinnser BIN or coverstain. Don't think you'll find it in BnQ though. Dulux and crown decorator centers carry it. IGguarantee it'll work permanently with one coat
