Think I’ve dropped a bo%#ock with this. My 12 months ended last week, I had an email to pay to own the bike (I thought). So I paid immediately.
New agreement came through and it appears I’m only hiring it for another 3 years then it’s mine.
It’s says I’m not allowed to sell the bike, but how would they know and what would happen if they found out?
Tried to call them today but they’re not in till Monday.
I think it’s best if I cancel the new hire agreement (14 day cooling off period?) and ask to buy it. Hopefully they’ll let me do this. Anyone had similar?
I would imagine it would only trigger something if you tried to get another on the scheme.
Bikes are stolen a lot these days you know 😉
If it's CycleScheme, with the blue logo etc and not one of those other similar schemes, I think this is covered in their FAQs (I signed up to an agreement in August).
I understood that after one year you could choose either the "own it now" option or "own it later", but if you Own It Now you have to pay a fair whack, up to 25% of the certificate value whereas if you wait three years the payment is a few quid (ish!).
I also think you can re-enrol for a new package after the first year is complete and you've chosen an option.
You must really want to sell the bike!
No one will know or care.
Do the free option where you pay nothing for an extended hire agreement. Yes it won't technically be yours to sell but as above no one will know or care.
They have no way of knowing if you sell their property, short of you phoning up and telling them your plans.
(Although my experience is a few bikes on the 1k scheme, maybe there is more oversight on 1k +).
CycleScheme explain the rules clear as day, in pictures, so you know selling at thus point aint right. If you really want to move it on then investigate the Own it now option that Owen mentions above, or just resolve to keep riding it for the next 3 years.
What kelron says.
I've used it 4 times, and have none of those bikes left.
As above, chill, continue with the hire agreement and sell it if you want to.
Nobody will GAS.
Really.
Whatever you do, don't phone them! Just get on with life. The extended rental is a fiction. They want to get rid of the bike, not dedicate any resources at all to monitoring it, discussing it on the phone with you, wondering where it is etc. No-one actually cares.
Its technically your employer not cycle scheme that is hiring you the bike for the next 3 years. I administer the scheme at my workplace and have sold a bike within the 3 years. I've had 3 bikes on the scheme. So as long as your employer won't notice or dosnt care then it won't matter.
Also now the 1k limit has been lifted green inituitive commute only charge £1
At the end of the first year instead of the 7%? I think cycle scheme charges. But it's hired for 5 years not 3.
But makes a huge difference if you are getting a 5k bike
I sold mrs_oab's Trek 18months ago.
I received the 'its yours, all paid for' letter last month.
In a similar vein to:
I sold mrs_oab’s Trek 18months ago.
.....
Why would I sell it, his little brother's going to get at least two more years out of it still.
Sold a boardman cx i had for 3 months on btw as it was awful. 5 years later no-one from my company has complained.
In a slight counterpoint to some posters I still have my 2009 Genesis Croix de Fer and my 2010 Giant Seek 0 both my only CTW bikes.
My Cyclescheme Trek Stache mk1 got stolen after two weeks and 3 rides (none of which were to work). It was uninsured and I was deeply bitter seeing the payment go out of my payslip.
No one ever checked up, so I extended the hire period because I sure as he’ll wasnt paying extra to make it mine now!
I've paid and sold all my c2w bikes before the 3 years. I asked them outright if I pay the £x what is the chances of you wanting it back in those 3 years? None was the reply. Iv even managed to get 2 certs in one year but they never took payment for the 2nd one, now I'm in two minds wether I should apply for another
