A friend's father was. Used to edit Scale Aircraft modeler. I reviewed a few in my time as well (waaaaay back as a teenager, like).
Have you forgotten that we are all critics on something or other - some people just joined magazine agencies and got jobs as critics in one field or another to fill column inches in those magazines, the woman wine critic who also does the Britains Best Dish must be pissed out of her mind by the end of every day...
Used to be an Airfix critic, but it all fell to pieces eventually.
Was also a drugs critic, but that went to pot as well...
Look, it's been a really, really long day at work, and yes, I'm very, very sorry.
My inclincation to get drunk on cruise ships sank my chances of being a cruise critic.
My GF when I was at Uni and I became the university newspaper "Restaurant critics". Superb. Meals out every week and someone else picked up the tab. Lovely.
