My other Pc is divided into 2 users, neither passworded. My side tells me I have a hardrive problem and apart from trying to fix it's self nowt happens. My missus's side will open normally and I can access everything through there. I assuming it's poorly at best or maybe dead. I am therefore trying to copy all the stuff that should have been backed up but isn't. I can open everything as usual but can't seem to save it anywhere such as a DVD. all I get is a message saying there is a problem. Emailing the file toanother PC isn't going to be on as 1 pic is greater than the 5mb that my email allows.
Any bright ideas?

(just 'til someone who knows gets here: ...)

how important is the stuff you have on there ?

if the drive is failing, pissing about might kill it before you get the stuff off

maybe you could find another pc, shove your disc in as a "spare" and copy everything off it that way

if your data is (yes pedants, "are") critical to you, stop the pc, take out the disc and give it to somebody who does this shit for a living

(or ... does malware do this sort of thing? - try googling the exact text of the message)

could be malware.
what's the name of the program that is reporting the hard drive problem?
some of them are capable of hiding numerous files and folders and creating fake warnings to tell you about all sorts of hardware issues that you don't actually have.
the fact that the other user account on the machine isn't reporting any issues would suggest that you do indeed have an infection in it rather than a genuine HDD failure.

Do a disk check to see if it really is a disk problem. I think it's right click on my computer and then in tools.. not sure tho.

the other user is sort of stuffed as I can't save or move anything to a cd etc.
My side shows nowt but a windows page telling me that I have problems.I get messages telling me that the HDD is not readable and occasionally one that tells me that my RAM temperature is 86 degrees??

You need to create another user account with password otherwise you are seen as Guest hence cannot save it anywhere on the system, except read and copy to external HD or USB stick.

Your missus's side, although not passworded, may be the Admininstrator hence able to do all things.

In other word your HD is not dead (if it is dead both of you will not be able to access it) but have no permission to do things because of the Guest status. I bet you can save it onto the Guest Document only.

So try to create a new user account but make sure you create password for that account. It is not Adminstrator but have access to all file and folder etc except the rights to alter the programme files.

Give it a go.

🙂

Herby has it, I reckon. A malware scan with MBAM would be a good starting point.

What specifically does it say?
