Anyone moved from a 2 liter sized company car to a merc vito or a vw transporter (3 seats up front style) company van?

If so were you better off and by how much?

Do you also pay for your private mileage or is it all included?

You can use this or this online calculator to work it out.

It used to be alot cheaper to have a van, but they changed the tax rules and now it is creeping up (although guess you'll still save some). I think I heard that the tax rules were set to change again in a couple of years - so worth checking that out too incase it goes up part way through your lease.

The fuel used to be all included (you didn't get taxed on private miles at all with a van) but that has changed too.

Sorry - It works for me 😕

It was the HM customs site: http://cccfcalculator.hmrc.gov.uk/CCF0.aspx but the other one should do the same.

Remember different speed limits for vans as well.

It's not like any government I've ever known to take a tax break away from an honest hardworking man, oh no I tell thee........

Dont forget vans drive different to cars , they roll on corners, and also the higher ones dont fit into multi storey car parks, or under the bars at the civic amenity tips, a chap in front of last year found that out, serious dent in his roof.

Modern medium sized (normal transit) vans actually handle fairly well these days and will comfortably do the speed limit on most A and B roads. As for the different speed limits in my experience they don't matter in terms of enforcement, much in the same way that HGV's going over 40 on derestricted A roads are ignored by the police.

Could you use a pickup?? My mate uses a Ford Ranger Double Cab witht the 2.5tdci in it and mountain top load tray cover.

Loves his truck more than life itself.

Running costs will be more expensive due to lower MPG, tax and insurance probably not much change.
Benefit in kind is much lower at £3000 for private van(less than 3.5t) use and fuel at £550 as opposed to % of list price based on emmissions. So maximum BIK £3550 at 20% would cost you £710 in tax or £1410 at 40%. There used to be a ruling on minimum load capacity on vans to qualify for van status. I think most manufacturers have worked around this now as some early pickups got excluded.
Private mileage on vans excludes commuting unlike cars but at £550 fuel BIK it makes it irrelevant anyway.
