56plate or newer (old shape) circa 3k.

Any particular engines that are good?

Prob looking at 1.9, 1.4 or 1.6 petrols in my price bracket.

Is the 1.4 'enough' for motorways/everyday use?

Any major bills or niggles etc?

This is my next car.

I have an 05 plate 2.0 HDi. I would probably avoid a 1.4 petrol, but it shouldn't really be a problem if you rarely use it heavily loaded.

The 1.6 HDi replaced the 2.0HDi, with similar performance and slightly better economy.

I really like mine.

There was 2.0HDi in the Classifieds the other day for £3k ish.

I have a P reg 2.0 HDI as well and really like it. Inside is a bit plasticky/cheap but nothing has actually broken.

Hora, there was a high spec one within your budget in the classifieds the other day.

07 1.6HDi, brilliant van, great on fuel. Enough room in the back for 5 bikes wi their front wheels off. This is my second after racking up 70,000 miles on my first (an 03 plate), n it had 80k on when i got it.
Definitley get the HDi, the SDi sucks balls compared to it, both power and fuel wise.

DrP I pulled out a faulty air/fuel sensor out of the drawer tonight to get the serial number for someone on another forum. That sensor cost me £470 to replace on a Subaru Legacy Sportswagon. After todays mot failure I want something simple and reliable.

The 2.0HDi seems quite reliable.

Some fella called "Hora" was asking about reliability of 2.0HDi v 1.6HDi over on PH a couple of years ago. Is he a relative by any chance?

I have the 1.6 hdi 90ps and I cannot fault it
I also have a focus 1.8 tdci 100hp and the 1.6hdi is head and shoulders above the ford lump .

stay away from the 1.4 petrol, and the 1.6 will be greedy on fuel. The 2.0 HDI is the nicest engine but the 1.9 D is bulletproof.

It's mine for sale 🙂 - it is my second one, the first being the 110bhp petrol and I'd say the diesel is much better and also much better than my old man's ford 1.6 TDCi too!

Had a 53 1.9D for a few years and I thought the engine was great. Sold it though cause freckles of rust started to appear all down one side which I thought strange. Great vans though.

Stick to either the 1.9 or the 2.0!hdi avoid the petrol.

The 1.6 hdi is more refind than the above but there will be bigger costs if it cocks up

I have used rental cars that may not have been retro fitted with this mod on similar terrain 😈
