Went and had tests done at docs and got result of avg of 5.9/ldl 4 ,the mrs went into overkill mode ,going off scale ,so went back n saw nurse, who is not a picture of fine health n explained i cycle n swim 3-4 times aweek and eat lots of porridge made with water not milk.
Her advice is diet control , so no butter, use olive /sunflower spread n up me oily fish n down me red meats.
What are peoples experiences here ,if any.?
Just been done this week. Look up the cholesterol myth on that Google, just to confuse the issue.
Might be worth reading about Tim noakes

Not really sure why you think that's relevant really. She's giving you advice on a healthy diet, which I'm sure she's fully qualified to do. I'm sure her doctor/nurse tries to do the same for her.
Before i went down to the nurse, i did some searching on British heart foundation site, and Nhs site .
All the nurse could offer was practice diet sheet and seemed ill informed.
The comment about nurse was made by my wife, typical female defence quote possably .???
mine is 7.2!
Looks like you are either confusing hunger with thirst or you don't drink enough water ie. you are chronically dehydrated(only water - coffee, beer, sodas etc dont count).
Either way, drink several glasses over water for the next few months and all shoul return to normal.

5.9 is ok isn't it?
I posted a 5.5 recently and the doc didn't seem arsed about it. Bilirubin was also only slightly elevated so I had a few pints to celebrate.
its the hdl ldl numbers that my doc looks at & never in isolation. Get a retest done to see a pattern & then every 6 mths or so get tested to establish a trend.
My blood test result is 4 pages long, there's nothing wrong with me just that if I'm giving a blood sample I may as well get everything done.
The doc looks at each test result & cholesterol is just part of the big picture.
Hope it helps.
Drink a lot of tea during a day( 8 mugs on av) so yes poss more water.
What about additives to water bottle when on bike ,use holland barret iso energy powder , is that good or bad ?
I was 5.2 when 22, 5.3 when 38 - just having it tested again now.

Worse: irrelevant 😉
Caffeinated beverages might have a diuretic effect, but it is still a net intake of fluid. Your net intake of fluid may still be suboptimal.
Nurse quoted gold standard as 5.0 so i think 5.9 is not bad .BUT ?
Worst thing is mrs said no pork pies !!!!!!
Age is 48.
@mountainman, we did a thread on this recently
It's largely hereditary, I've had high readings since I had my first test in my 20's (as part of a work medical)
Diet and excersize helps, without yours being as good as it is you results would be worse.
EDIT: BTW he nurse could (probably does) have better cholestoral readings than you do
My doc said,
"Your good cholesterol is good but you bad cholesterol is bad which is not good."
?????.
What does that mean,Doc?
Well, it's like mine...
if you don't eat fry ups, don't start.
I kid you not!
Er thanks Doc.
That was about 8 years ago.
Still breathing.
mountain man - read the Gary Taubes stuff it's very interesting.
I am not wanting to start the low/high carb debate but there is apparently a link between high carb diets and raised cholesterol.
