Don't worry Peter Kenyon still has a chance of an FA cup medal. 🙂

While we're on the subject of refs getting it wrong, I'm almost tempted to feel sorry for Darren Fletcher.

Well, almost.

Just seen on the Beeb website, Dermot Gallacher's view on the 5 key decisions

He knows far more about reffing at that level than I do, but he agree's absolutely with me on the five incidents. Which is good, since we both follow the same set of laws.

Former Premier League Dermot Gallacher referee said he was surprised by Ovrebo's performance.

He told the BBC: "Of the five key decisions he got three wrong - Drogba was a penalty, shirt pull and trip, and should have been a red card - the trip on Nicolas Anelka wasn't a foul, Eric Abidal is very, very unlucky. Gerard Pique was the easiest decision of the five, as it was a clear handball.

to trailmonkey:

that is imho ridiculous that matters such as this cannot by the rules of the competition be reviewed. I sympathise that the ref gave waht he saw on the night but to continue to penalise Fletcher for that error is very unjust. I know it's an extension of the same as discussed as above, that the Ref penalised Chelsea by failing to give penalties at crucial times, and maybe you can't pick and choose what's open to review for fear of what that precedent brings, but where's the logic and common sense?

Personally, I think that common sense should prevail. It's got to be understood that refs can and do make mistakes and suspensions should be open to appeal in the light of retrospective video evidence. It should be clear that the rules only apply to suspensions and that further subsequent actions could not be taken ie, a team demanding a replay because a player was wrongly sent off.

Laurent Blanc missing the 98 WCF is a prime example. With retrospective video evidence used in appeal, Blanc would have played in the final and we all would have been spared the horrors of Franc LeBeouf telling us endlessly that he had "won zee world cup" 😉

Dermot Gallagher, like the rest of us, has had the benefit of seeing replays, and not had to make a split-second decision in the heat of the moment.

Time people got off the ref's back. This won't help him as an individual, and places even more pressure on referees. Their job is the hardest on the pitch, and they get paid a fraction of what the players do.

Chelsea have no right to moan anyway. Dogbra alone has cheated on countless occasions, as have most of the rest of the team. I remember Malouda diving on the floor to win a penalty against Liverpool, practically jumping onto a Liverpool defender, to fake a challenge. Dirty bastard.

IMO, justice has been served. UEFA should now jump all over Chelsea, and hand out some proper, effective punishments.

2-year ban from Yerpean competition. I think that's about right.

Back to my earlier post. The game, and refereeing at every level, is about making split-second decisions, and relies on people getting them right more often than not. He didn't, on 3/5 of the critical decisions, which isn't good enough.

But also as i said, the way that many top level players 'go down' so theatrically does not accentuate trips and pulls, but instead masks them, and that makes the decision making process far harder.

So they were honest mistakes, but mistakes just the same.

Without doubt, the ref made mistakes, but over the 2 legs, they seemed to even up. Barca should have had a pen in the first leg, and Ballack should've been sent off.

I like the way Fat Frank reacted - went out with family and drunk water and juice. Class, despite my disliking him for playing for the wrong team.

Ah, diddums! Here's yer dummy back...

I don't hate Chelsea. They're not worthy of my hatred. Of too little significance, football wise.

Man U, on the other hand...

You don't hate Man Utd either, you only struggle to work out why they have nicer kit than Liverpool.

Behave yourself! Bloody AIG all over t'front of it? And they copied Liverpool with the red, too.

Here's your new kit for next season (well, one of the 79 different kits Cashchester will be selling).

Mm, stylish...

To be fair we'd played in a number of different kits (including red) before Everton shat you out.

Actually, yes. LFC were formed following Everton's move to Goodison Park, leaving the Anfield ground vacant. Everton's loss, football's gain...

As for Man U; Newton Heath wore a yellow and green kit, as well as a red and white quartered kit. The red jerseys were only introduced in 1902, the year the club officially became Man Utd. Liverpool have been playing in red jerseys since 1894....

But where are the Man U players? We can't see them, they can't see each other!

Better change the kit at half time, then. Yes, thatull help....
