My rear right hand disc is binding a bit - it makes a honking noise esp when turning gentley to the left. I'm assuming that this is a result of the disc warping (started after a trip to the alps and biiiig hills).
So how easy is it to change the disc and pads (assume they need to be done at the same time) on a Mk3 mondeo? I'm happy to do any work on my bike, but don't have that much experience with cars. Is it easy or am I best off getting a man in? I've looked a bit on the net and it seems that the tricky bit is retracting the pistons...
It's relativley easy - you do need some long nose pliers and a strong grip to wind the piston back in if not using a rewind tool. It's unlikely that the binding is happening due to the disc being warped but that the disc is warped because the caliper is seized - if it's always dragging it will warp the disc through constant heating. You may need a new caliper but might be able to get away with some gentle braking for a week or two to remove the warping - I'm trying this on my cart after teh tyre fitters overtorqued the wheel nuts.
Hmmmm, the binding is bad enough that it heats the whole wheel up to the touch - it seems to be intermitent tho - some days it's fine over days it's honking like a goose.
How will gentle braking remove the warp?
