New car insurance write to us and say the underwriter has told them of an 'undisclosed claim' back in 2005 - we disagree, the underwriters the insurance used, say there is no claim in 05, my insurance company in 05 say I made no claim.
.
But still current insurers are adamant, and have removed all NCD and bunged up policy accordingly...
Is there some national database of claims etc I can get info from? I have to wait for new insurer to speak to underwriter to speak to old insurer etc etc...and they haven't done anything in two months so far...

Phone the new insurers and ask for the exact claim details that they have for 2005 - ie insurers, claim number, policy number, reg of car, date of claim etc. They may also have a phone number for the insurer who covered the car at the time of the claim. Ring those people and find out what the claim/incident was. If the new insurer can't/won't tell you then start making a fuss because they must have got some info in order to reduce your ncb.

Don't forget that this may be just an incident that you rang the old insurers just to inform them of (ie not made a claim) and also may have gone through another insurer (ie if somebody hit you and you claimed through their insurer). Any incident will affect your premium. However it's unusual to ask back more than 3 years. Who are the new insurers?

Maybe it's a stupid question, but why are you persevering with this company? Can't you find another deal and cancel this one, given it doesn't sound like you'd want to deal with them in the event of a real claim?

Have you had any incidents or claims in last 5yrs?

Yeah I reversed over my kids bicycle in the driveway but didn't claim...

Bang gotcha-one incident -up goes your insurance risk/premium.

Don't even enquire about anything-they record all your calls and log everything -I used to work in insurance as a student.

IOB-complain to them.

I went to Devitt to insure my car (as my motorike was already with them) and found them really helpful with my somewhat checkered history and points etc. Just try someone decent.

Was it it CO-OP by any chance?

My dad had the same thing with them last week (also 2005), but we cancelled the insurance within the 14 day grace period so didn't follow it up.

Insurers are Autotrader, underwritten by Highway.

No incidents - we have listed three and they are the ONLY ones...absolutely sure.
