halfords want 50quid, quick look online gets the price down to about 40 with post. anyone ever bought their battery online and can recomend anyone?
its for an occasional use car if that makes any difference.
Yes, I bought one from http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/
A lot cheaper than anywhere else and I didn't need the car whilst I waited the day for it to arrive.
Same company as EuroCarParts but cheaper.
Try a local battery wholesalers, we have http://www.countybatteryservices.co.uk/ nearby and they are usually cheaper than the on-line only sellers as well.
Car batteries are actually quite fragile and don't like being dropped. It is very easy to damage the plates inside and you wouldn't be able to tell. I'm not sure I would trust a parcel company to deliver it safely.
Just go to your local trade parts place, they all sell over the counter to non trade people and they will have handled the battery correctly.
Oh, and don't buy one with a two year warranty- cheap batteries are a false economy. Ideally buy Bosch or Yuasa.
*Edit* I just spotted the "occasional use" bit- In that case definitely go for a good brand with a four year warranty. Car batteries thrive on regular runs and hate being left unused for any length of time.
I bought one recently from http://www.advancedbatterysupplies.co.uk. Varta (like the OE one it replaced), cheap, next day delivery, what's not to like.
I always get my batteries on line now. Have used a few different websites, depending on who was the cheapest.
Never had any problems with the couriers either, I think they have to be declared due to the acid and they are handled carefully IME.
I bought one from EuroCarParts last year and it was delivered by a EuroCarParts van in a see through plastic bag so there was no chance of the driver not knowing what he had.
Just check your last battery is definitely out of warranty, might as well get it swapped for free if you can.

Think they are actually eurocarparts in disguise.
Normally cheaper than ECP and usually voucher codes floating around for them too.
