for instance the 23 episodes of the T de F 2009?
you could but you'd have to be clinically insane. You'd need some sort of video screen capture tool because there's not a way to permanently store the footage via the player.
So you'd need to play each episode at real time, capturing it as you go, all in low res, and then you'd need to convert those files to something that was reasonably compact. That'd take you about a month.
Or, you could buy the lance armstrong 2009 Tdf DVD boxset. Only 150 dollars and not guaranteed to be a Lance arse licking contest, no siree.
but my personal recommendation would be to torrent all the episodes that someone else has kindly captured.

Just did a test with an Emmerdale episode took about 2 mins on my connection. Format is WMV 22 min episode was approx 36mb in size.
Orbit is fantastic for capturing streaming video Utube etc. Doesn't seem to work on BBC iplayer though.
get_iplayer does BBC TV & radio, & ITV TV streams. You can specify the default resolution for the BBC streams, so it'll grab the HD ones where available. Allows you to specify the output codec .. wmv, mpeg4 etc.
Also has a pvr mode so you can setup a job to run nightly to download streams that have, say, "bike" in the title.
my apologies. It seems you can.
