Odd one, but I'm sure I'm not alone.

The wife's father has shown a mobile is a bit much for him, but is okay with a landline. One of the main issues with a mobile is that he doesn't charge it.

However, line rental and contract on a landline is way more expensive than a mobile contract.

Is there a landline type device that would run off a sim card and plug into the mains, but not need a physical landline?

Just one of those big buttoned mobiles from Doro(?) or the like and leave it permanently plugged in to charge?

Problem with a mobile is that he'll unplug it and forget to plug it back in. Same with a cordless phone.

Martyn, yes, something very much like that. If it had two speed dial buttons that you could put a picture of each daughter on, we'd be laughing.

I was going to suggest some sort of docking station so it has a 'home' until your previous post.

Get a mobile and Araldite the charger into it?

I have a 4g Huawei router I use for Internet and it has a jack plug in it to connect a telephone handset. I'm with Smarty, £20 a month for unlimited data calls and texts, for £10 unlimited calls and texts and 30GB data.

VoIP isn't going to work if we're looking to get ride of the line rental.

I've been through this with both my parents. Both living in care homes.
Mum had the one MartynS linked to and it was good - looks just like a land line.

For dad I got a mobile that has a charging cradle which he just returns it to.

Just be aware that some of this type won't work on the Three network because the use a 2g signal, although that's becoming less of an issue.
