MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Went to see the nurse at my GP's today to have some standard blood tests (Thyroid Levels).
The Nurse going though my blood test history was asking why none of the GP's had picked up that my last blood glucose levels taken almost 2 years ago (albeit in all probability were not a fasting test) were well outside the normal range, even taking into account that I probably hadn't fasted.
But I have no symptoms AFAIK. Can you be clinically Type 2 Diabetic without any of the obvious symptoms?
I have a feeling alot of people might be like this in the western world.
The fasting test appears to be the easiest to pass.
I did the fasting one and I well with in normal levels. But also I brought myself a self test kit and directly after eating I was a bit too high. mind was mashed potato and I was feeling a bit ill hence why I went to the doctors. Infections can raise blood sugar.
I should try and test myself again when I am in good health.
I think you can.....but I stand ready to get flamed
IIRC the symtoms can all be mistaken for other conditions and don't always present similiarly. But I'm T1 so not as well informed on T2, which frankly is a splitter's condition. Go big or go home!
A mate of mine only realised he had an issue when he was playing with his dads blood sugar testing kit, his blood sugar level was 26, went the docs and was diagnosed as type 2.
I was diagnosed type 1 in January 2010 and was on insulin for a bit but was constantly hypo-ing so had my dose reduced bit by bit until it was stopped altogether.
I was told i was just in a honeymoon period but that was now 20+ months ago and they now seem to be telling me i'm a type 2 instead (which suits me fine). I have no medication at all and test my blood every day (just once) but my blood levels are pretty much normal although they can go high(ish) if i eat lots and don't exercise.
I had all the symptoms when i was first diagnosed but now don't really have any diabetic symptoms at all despite being told i'm definately diabetic, so i guess you could be diabetic?
Having said that, a lot of type 2's could lesson their symptoms simply by sorting out their diet and doing loads of exercise, it's certainly worked for me. Perversly, i'm probably now the healthiest i've ever been as i cut most of the sweets and fizzy drinks out of my diet.
There was no history of diabetes in my family and i'm in the normal weight range for my height.
yes you can.
I am recently diagnosed Type 2 diabetic & I have no symptoms of anything at the moment that I'm aware of. Thirsty? not especially. Getting up to pee at 2am? Nope. Sleepy during the day? nope.
Routine blood test to check my kidney function, as a result of the medication I'm on for gout, picked up the elevated glucose level at 7.3; normal is under 6.0 (don't ask me what the units are). Several further tests, most of them fasting, confirmed that I am indeed borderline Type 2.
10 or or years ago I had symptoms and living in the US at the time they did an awful lot of tests - but the final outcome at the time was it was a thyroid problem.
Although given I was living the high life and abusing my body no end - pretty much none of my readings were normal - liver, kidneys, cholesterol, blood pressure etc. But I have very good since then and pretty much live the life of a monk.
Yes you can have type 2 without symptoms that you may recognise.
Think of type two diabetes as something that you don’t have one day but do the next... it is not like that. It is more like a shades of grey thing.... and the definition is just an nominal point (in fact the definition has recently changed).
Because it is a creeping disease the symptoms can often slowly set in so that they may seem normal to you. People often have type two for many years before they become aware that they have the disease. I know of people who have nearly gone blind and lost their feet before they found out they had diabetes.... they must have had it for 10+years.
