Nah, robin eggs is blue, I think they're those little sugar Easter eggs; I always did wonder what layed them...

I think peeps are right about the gall theory, i might try to find the tree again, then see if the balls are attached.
Research on the net, seems to show that it's not too common for the wasp to lay her eggs in a fungus. The galls them selves are a type of fungi if i've read it right.
Lots of beef steaks or ox tongue round here, never tried one, i hear the younger ones are a little more enjoyable.
