We've been camping in southern Brittany the last 4 years, 3 times near at Raguenes and once near Benedot.

Really like the area, great beaches, relatively quiet etc.

However, my son is now getting into body boarding/surfing so looking for somewhere with a bit more surf. The last two years we did day trips to Pointe de La Torche which was great but a pain to pack up the camper for the day and drive over an hour each way.

So looking for any recommendations for other campsites/areas in Brittany, where there's some good safe surf.

We prefer smaller/quieter campsites, but ideally with a pool and slides for the non beach days and walking distance to a beach.

Moon on a stick?

Not much help but if you go further south the water heats up noticeably. For years I took my lot to Eurocamp at La Vieux Port, Messange, Gascony and stayed in the red zone (nearest the beach, less of a carry). There are loads of surfing beaches accessible from here and although it's a lot further south I never found the drive particularly arduous even with 2 boards and 2 mtbs on the roof. Couple of years ago I did Northampton to Aramites (?) in the Pyrenees in a day.

this place is nice http://www.villagelaplage.com/

Prob better for younger families - direct access to non-surf beach, no road - but it is quiet and very well run. Stayed there a few years on the trot when the kids were small, last time was two/three years ago. It's a 10 min drive to surf at la torche, porz carn and other places. Substantially less than 10 mins when frothing at the mouth.

There's some ok waymarked mtb routes a bit further along the peninsula. Bit of locals stuff round Gulnivec, though it's a bit flat. Bit of bouldering also at Penmarch. Love it round there.

There's also camping point de le torche (google it) which is a walk from the surf, I hear is good but I've not personally stayed at

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll take a look.

We'd like to go further south, but the friends that we go with are not to keen on the heat.

I popped into camping point de la torche. It was very basic. I think it would be fine if you were just going for the surfing, but we need to keep 5 kids entertained, so it maybe a bit limited in that respect.

...yeah. The Yelloh site I linked (add .co.uk for Eng version) is a 4* unlike la torche. Worked well for us as a balance between smaller/quieter and bigger/noisier, with a fair amount for kids.

Their other site, a few km away is also good and had a bit more by way of activities (took the kids there for a 'go ape' type rope course high in the trees) http://www.yellohvillage.co.uk/camping/l_ocean_breton/sports_and_activities

Dunno why I'm pushing this as I'm not on commission. Just feeling a bit wistful I guess about our youngest being 18 in Aug and those days long gone...
