Looking for campsite suggestions in the Devon/Cornwall area, requirements are: -

1 hour from the M5 corridor
must accept dogs

would like: -

allowed to have fires
somewhere close by to buy scrumpy cider 🙂
beach is always good

Thanks in advance

That rules out Cornwall then unless you drive well over 100 from the end of the M5!

Try the area of South Devon around/near Exmouth or the South Hams nearish Plymouth - stunning coastline, a few campsites, good pubs.

This is a good one:

Plenty of nice ones around Croyde/Woolacombe/Ilfracombe area. Stayed at Warcombe Farm (look on ukcampsite) at weekend. Fabulous site. No fires though. Sites that allow fires are bloody few and far between these days sadly.

Have a fire on a beach - job done.

N Devon gets mingingly busy in season and the drive from the M5 is a nightmare.

2nd Warcombe Farm. Nice site.

very few of the mainstream sites allow fires now and those that do tend to get booked up months in advance by middle-class glampers with matching Cath Kidston teepees and picnic rugs.

Not if you know where to go.

We can be at a completely secluded beach in 25 mins on a bank holiday weekend...

Even this beach (about 35 mins away) never has more than a handful of people right in season:

A boat is helpful to get to them though.

I should have known you'd know better.

It's called "knowing your own county" - it's not hard you know.

Thanks Lee - how about someone that KNOWS Devon and Cornwall makes suggestions rather than some tourists who have been here a couple of times eh?

Oooh it's like Bikeradar all over again.

I do know Cornwall quite well, I lived there for the first 18 years of my life thank you very much.

It's not Porthcurno - but it's very nearby. A hideous climb down (for anyone scared of heights!) puts most people off.

Other beaches are only accessible by boat or a very long walk - not very handy for most but lovely for some. Had two days off last week so four days in a row of nipping out on the boat - most people we saw on a beach in blazing sunshine? Two. Compare that to surfing on Sunday - total number on Fistral beach? About 10 million.

Seriously though, if anyone wants to know where to go, just ask - know S Devon and Cornwall very well.

Treen then - as you say, not very practical for most people!!

Went there 10 or so years ago, but there's no way I'd take my little girl down the path to it!

MM - we took our little one down and my Mum (aged 56) made it fine. But hairy though.

This little cove was empty on Saturday and not far away either:

MM - TBH I'd worry now too. If you trip, you fall a loooong way.

Another vote for Warcombe Farm, spent two 2week holidays there. Love that site, no fires though, but very nice scrumpy from the wee shop in Mortehoe.

No, you don't wanna go to Warcombe Farm...the drive there is terrible from the M5 🙄 Took us all of 45 minutes on Saturday morning. What would I know anyway, I'm just a tourist...

What's the bikeradar reference about anyway?

Noongallas in west cornwall. Rudementary facilities but fires allowed. 10mins form s coast beaches 20 to north coast. Beutiful wood below campsitre and many mtb options from here (I live at the other end of the woods). Otherwise call penzance tourist info and they'll send you a list of sites.

P.s. surf-mat... at most a thin crowd of maybe 10 on Sunday a.m. then just me and a mate pm sesh. And the 10 was a very crowded surf fo me based on recent sessions. Like you say you gotta know where to look! ; )

Another option is Chycarne in South Cornwall.

linky

They allow open fires and not far from the beech.

Gav - I was with the wife, toddler and dog so options were limited. Still good fun though.

Last pic I promise from Sunday...

LOL! Work with Somerset Tourism and it'a a very common mistake! Very near the border though...
