Going away the weekend and I am after a lantern to have on pretty much all night for my 9 month old.

Not looking for anything fancy and I have seen a few on Amazon but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on here. Spec I am looking for is Ideally rechargeable not batteries, needs to stay on for around 14 hours + without needing charging. It doesn't have to be a lantern I did see some smaller rechargeable tea light style lights that stayed on for quite some time but I can't remember where I spotted them.

Decathlon do some pretty good rechargeable lanterns. We bought a couple at the beginning of July and they worked well.

Would a torch app with varying outputs on your smart phone work?
If you've got a power bank that will power it overnight

This one from Decathlon has a red light night mode that is supposed to give quite a long battery life. I bought one but it was broken and i never got round to buying another so I can't actually give you a real life review.

We've got several of those Decathlon lamps, good for the price. 4 AA batteries, high, low and red settings so should be something that works for you.

Only tested my alpkit lamprey minimally but its pretty nice. Can act as a charger to phone as well. Even low power is still reasonably bright though.

+1, always keep mine handy as it's brilliant for when you get a power cut! Think it's got something ridiculous like a 36h run time on low.

Or just put a plastic coloured beaker over the torch/light - you're bound to have some if you have kids

Nice ideas. I liked the look of the Decathlon one but wanted a rechargeable one ideally. The do do one but the battery life is poor.

I have a joystick and one of the beacon covers but I use the joystick as my main light when not using the lantern as it is pitch black where we are going, so need a backup ideally.

How about a DROK USB light? It's just a LED on a small circuit board that you plug into anything with a USB socket. Not a huge amount of light but as a night light they are ideal. You'll need to make some sort of diffuser cover.

Battery life? On a typical 18650 rechargeable you'll get a couple of weeks continuous use 🙂

£6 for five on Amazon!

Not cheap, but very handy, the Maratac TLL Light is ideal, uses a standard ‘C’-cell, has a low, high and strobe function, (hence the TLL in the name; Temporary Landing Light). On low, it’ll get about 370 hours out of a standard Duracell! Very robust, I’ve got two through a Massdrop promotion, and they are ideal camping lights, as well as a bedside nightlight.

Alpkit lanterns are really good value.

Can't remember which one we have but it's dimmable which helps a lot when dealing with little ones

I'm not convinced. Take the Lampray - a generic Chinese lamp you can buy for a fiver on ebay, branded Alpkit and marked up to £38. It's a bit too much of a premium just for the convenience of dealing with a UK retailer.IMO.

I have a Lampray and a similar eBay lamp. The Alpkit one has a larger battery, is heavier (so feels sturdier) and has a better magnet (so it will stick to a nail head, whereas the eBay one needs a solid lump of metal). Relevant to this thread it's also got the very low brightness mode which the eBay one doesn't.

In this case, Whitestone's suggestion seems good to me. Or just attach a led and resistor to a pair of rechargeable cells.
