I am camping this Saturday halfway through a 2 day run along the South Downs.

What can I cook to feed 4 people who will be starving after a days running, using only my single camping stove, and relatively quickly due to the potential thunder and gales this weekend?

packet risotto? add water and heat, one pan and lots of nice carbs for energy the next day.

or pasta with a stir in sauce... maybe add a can of corned beef for some meaty goodness.

Make a chilli, freeze it and pack it as late as possible
A couple of those microwave rice packets to pack it out

Mind you, you're either going to a: need a large pan, b: eat like mice or c: have to make at least 2 batches

You can always [usually] find enough shelter to cook so wouldn't worry about that

Are you carrying the food?

If you are not carrying it then some nice preprepared pasta and sauce

some packets of those cheap chicken / curry flavored noodles from "generic" supermarket and cut up a spicy smoked sausage through it

always goes down well

I've used Dolmio stir in sauces in the past and been presently surprised by the results. 1 big bag of pasta and 4 tubs of stir in sauces did 4 people for 2 evening meals at T in the park. We had drinking water on hand at the camp site for boiling the pasta, if you had to carry this as well it could be a little awkward

Boil in the bag rice & tins of Stagg chilli....

Cook rice.
Remove.
Tip in Stagg. Heat.
Tip in rice as well to keep warm/mix-up.
Serve.

YUM.

You'll need a pretty meaty saucepan for 4 portions. 1 can of Stagg will do 2 people, although if you are properly hungry then you might want a can each!!

I was a bit disappointed in them Teetosugars.

And if you're using Stagg it's got to be the dynamite version with lots of cheese on top.

Yep we've used look what we found for D of E and things and found them to be quite nice. Plus, although they don't officially mention it they can be boiled in the bag 🙂

you can always boil the pasta at home and stick the cooked pasta in a plastic tub. reheat in hot water at the campsite and add dolmio/ragu/tesco value pasta sauce - cant get much easier/quicker than that i reckon

stagg chilli is great too - heat it up and serve in wraps with grated cheese

cous cous is nice and quick too

To get that authentic camp cuisine experience everything should taste slightly of paraffin.

I've made risotto from scratch camping before - it was fantastic although not that quick I suppose.
