Any rumours of any new phones due next year? I'm due an upgrade to my Hero in a few weeks and i don't want to get, say, a Desire HD to find they bring out some new uber phone a couple of months later. Oh and it must be Android based not Windows

Evo 4g? As in a CDMA phone with no GSM radio? Fanboi fail. The desire HD is effectively the GSM evo.

Have to be HTC? (hooked on Sense?) or just android. Nexus S might be a better bet, desire HD battery life not supposed to be great.

Worth a watch...

You tried running the Mobile Data Controller App? Allows you to switch of the Mobile Data element which massively increased the battery life on my Legend.

I'm due to upgrade my HTC Hero in 3 months. If I don't change to PAYG i'll get a Desire HD as they've impressed me with the decent screen & speed. Quite large though.
Otherwise, i'll swap to PAYG for a while until the next thing (possibly after the Nexus S) comes out & I don't have to pay a small fortune for it.

If they do I reckon it will launch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in Feb, thats when the Desire & Legend were unveiled last week. My Hero is up in a few weeks also, I reckon I will wait till Feb and if nothing interesting announced go for the Desire HD.
Worth a look at the Nexus S too though personally far prefer HTC Sense UI over standard Android.

Nexus S will be the first with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Saying it will be out in the UK on December 20th.

That shift 4g looks to be a LTE phone for sprint in the states (i.e. won't be out here). And the thunderbolt is also a LTE/CDMA phone too, so also no good here.

You want to be looking at GSM HTC phones for the UK.

i have had HTC phones for the last few years now and they are by far above the rest, i love the android os, i have a desire HD at the moment and its perfect for what i want, i can watch high quality videos, surf the internet, phone text and email very simply, its so simple to set up and run and is very simple once it gets going,

im not sure how they can improve the phone,i think that phones have gone as far as they can realisticly, only going to be little things like battery life and gps quality.

Also used the power control widget to make it easy to turn of GPS, wifi and bluetooth when not required... They are all power hungry. Thought it was well known but seen two family members over Christmas who had then all turned on and complained about battery life.

Jacko, you underestimate the manufacturers. They will keep finding finding or creating unique selling points to ensure they remain competitive, you just haven't thought of them 🙂

Well an obvious starting point for HTC would be the camera (stills, video and related audio quality), no HTC phone has a decent one. Also for the desire HD I believe the speaker has a lot to be desired. And of course battery life, like you say.

Really ? So faster processors, better graphics, larger memory are little things 🙂

Have had my Desire HD for about 2months now, awesome phone, battery life is nowhere near as bad as people were saying it would be, with heavy use i get a full day with light use at least 2 days.

The beauty with Android is that although you might get a phone and then in a few months there's a new phone out with android you'll get the new software as an OTA update anyway, already got most of the gingerbread features on my Desire HD already, XDA forum is awesome for updates 🙂

Thing with waiting to see what's coming, is there's always something coming. If you wait for the release of the new HTC Superlative, it'll a) be really really expensive and b) be followed shortly afterwards by the announcement of the HTC ThaiBride or something.

It's true of PCs and of phones; you should buy the best you can afford, when you can afford it, and enjoy it. Waiting for what's just around the corner is a slippery slope.

nice to see screen sizes increasing - my wife's Jphone is too bloody small for my elderly eyes

I can't seem to get on with my HD desire, the thing is too tricky to use, (I'm used to Nokia's btw).

I'm desperate to get a N8 or even go back to a 5800 xpressmusic.
That's not to say the HD desire is bad atall, just not for me.
Damn it's quick, sharp, razor so. Screen is a good size with no buttons to take up screen.

The only thing that's bad on the HD is that the speaker is crap for playing music through unlike the 5800.
That's the only thing and I heard you have to train the battery to get maximum life out of it.

{edit} if anyone wants a 3week old HD desire on Orange then reply back and I'll do a good deal.
