No fairly typical unfortunately. I am with Plusnet and it is already on the account and will be activated should I decide to terminate!

Standard.

When I spat my dummy with Orange a couple of years ago (they had a fault which meant they were unable to provide my broadband) they insisted that they "had" to charge for disconnection. Even sent me final notice type letters. I eventually spoke to a UK based call centre and told them to stick it, as it was their problem that had left me (& my work from home wife) broadbandless for 6 weeks.

pretty standard. I'm expecting to get hit with something from Sky when we finally get shot of them on Wednesday next week.

Have to say, we're moving to Namesco and first impressions have been amazing. Much better control panel / information than sky, they seem to have a lot more technical help available and their support and sales staff replied to email queries within the hour (compared to Sky who averaged about 45 hours turnaround on a question, got my name wrong repeatedly and could only spout what they're approved to say from various scripts). Mind you, it's more expensive than Sky but hopefully it'll be a proper service rather than Sky Connect's "you can have 4MB between the hours of 12am and 8:30am, otherwise 600KB if you're lucky"

Left Sky in December.

No charge, although it was the end of my contract.

Bah - BT once tried to charge me £240 broadband disconnection fee - and I hadn't disconnected, just moved, which was noted on the same account. It took a good nine months for them to remove the charge from my account, all the while paying a ridiculous direct debit amount.

I don't understand the logic of a disconnection fee - they don't uninstall the equipment just flick a switch somewhere. Rogues !

Orange reckoned that generating the MAC code requires effort (!) hence a disconnection fee. Robbers. Shite service in general as well.

Is there a charge after the contract has gone past it's date?

I've gone past mine but still have to gove 3 months notice.
