Heading to Bristol to see a gig at the fleece on Tuesday. Never been there before. Any locals point me in the direction of a good pre-post gig drinks venue. No food, good music, spacious, friendly vibe..thanks!

Bristolian but no longer live there.

Used to go to The Old Duke on Kings Street. Short walk to the Fleece, good atmosphere and usually some live music on.

King Street is pretty good. There's a few nice older pubs along there. Plus a couple bar boats moored up at the end.

As said above loads of pubs on King Street - Small Bar, Old Duke, King Street Brewhouse, Old Naval Volunteer to name some.  Next door to the Fleece is the Seven Stars which is OK. Another couple of pubs close by are the Cornubia (Temple Street BS1 6EN), Bridge Inn (Passage Street BS2 0JF), Kings Head and Shakespeare both on Victoria Street - all are withing 5 minutes of the Fleece.

'Spacious' rules out a few. Old Duke gets rammed, Bridge Inn is cosy, Small Bar is, err, quite small, and the Kings Head is the smallest pub I've ever been in.

Yeah, pubs in Bristol tend to be cosy. I'd add the Portwall Tavern to @Phillby excellent list, Left Handed Giant taproom is huge but very popular so may not be all that spacious.
