I have a meeting tomorrow which will announce our new structure. Redundancies seem likely. Does anyone have any tips?

Whatever you hear tomorrow, don't assume the worst until you know what's actually going to happen to you. The best advice I can offer from experience is to remain positive and on side; don't fall into the negative pit as it's very hard to climb out once you're down there.

Youll find that workmates you thought of as freinds will change, until a list of names ids read out, then they will change even more if their name is on the list.

Best wishes for tommorrow, at least its warm and sunny to enjoy cycling.

I've been in the same situation twice. You have my deepest sympathy. Its bloody awful! I don't envy you.

If you do get made redundant, remember that sometimes you're best off out of it. When I got made redundant, my mate didn't and stayed.

By the sounds of it, he had the worst option. The morale of the remaining staff hit rock bottom. The place was awash with gossip and rumour about the next round of redundancies (which did come), the company going bust. all sorts of stuff. Apparently the stress levels were intolerable.

Me - I just went and got another job

Good luck though!

Thanks everyone. At the mo thinking that some things are meant to be. Especially with 8 years service which could mean a favourable pay out. Mmm what new bike could I get with that? 🙂

Think it's a bit more than the statutory. Was 3 wks for every year last time they made redundancies. So we'll see.

Good idea, a hip flask may be an option. Just hate that dreaded moment when the script is read out, having been through it before.

it depends how quickly they want you out.

Some companies want you to work your notice, and only offer the statutory minimum, but may offer more if you opt for voluntary redundancy.

First time I was made redundant I'd been there less than 2 years so wasn't technically entitled to anything. They offered me (I think) 4 weeks in lieu of notice, plus any holiday I hadn't taken up to that point, tax free. The 'risk' date was 21st August, I was told on the 1st. "You don't need to come back in if you don't want to". Too right, you think I'm driving an 85 mile round trip for nothing

Effectively I got three weeks paid holiday, one month's salary for the month I'd already worked, plus another month tax free. Wasn't a bad payoff considering how long I'd been there.
I started a new job on 1st September, but knew about it before the "end date", so I never even signed on.

Footnote to this is the job I started on 1st September, I left on the 27th October to start the job I'm in now.
