I'm aware that the recipient of the funds receives notification that a direct debit to them has been cancelled by the payer (BACS list) but does anybody know if a person who receives a standing order payment gets a notification if a standing order is cancelled by the payer?
I need to cancel a standing order but I also need to be 'away' when it occurs.
A long and quite interesting story but I can't go in to it here.

No, the beneficiary is not notified. A standing order involves only your bank, whereas a direct debit is someone else receiving permission from your bank to debit your account.
