Just bought a Blu ray player and now fazed by all the blu ray films out there.

Any good ideas for a top notch blu ray film to admire.

Thanks

Have a look at The Fall.

Not a well known film, but quite intriguing and the picture quality and cinematography is amazing!

surely the cinema version of avatar is the director's cut - no one at the studio tells james cameron how to cut a film I'm guessing

what it actually means is 'longer, duller cut"

'Cars' will make you cream your pants, but as it's an animation can't be used as a true reference.

Can't think of the best to be honest, but just watched Clash Of The Titans, which was pretty damned good.

I'd like to see Die Hard 4.0 on a BD, as on Sky HD (1080i) it's my reference film - looks absolutely stunning.

What screen will you be feeding your Blu-ray deck to and what sound system will (hopefully) be delivering your HD sound?

Daft as it might seem older films shot on a wide format film stock, eg 70mm transfer really well to Blu Ray, Zulu and Ghandi both look amazing, the sound mixes aren't as good as more modern films though.

+1 for The Dark Knight

Ah yeah Sherlock Holmes look real good too.

I got ghostbusters cheap a while back seems ok but then don't have any other copy to compare to.

Inglorious basterds is bloody lovely too.

The Matrix should be good provided they've taken the time to upscale it properly and all.

UP for Pixar at it's best.

Get Band of Brothers for scenery that's better than the actors (and it has good actors)

Was dissapointed with Bladerunner(brill movie though) tbh, but it was always going to be a grainy looking Blu Ray.

Casino Royal & Band of Brothers are worth checking out

Has anyone see any of the Old "Bond" movie conversions yet?

I think the gain from blueray is in the sound as much as the picture so newer films always tend to be better.

Dark Knight and Sherlock Holmes being very good to my senses.

The maximum resolution of Sky HD is 1080i, Blu Ray is 1080p and should be better.

I have not seen any of the old Bond films on Blu Ray, but I have heard that the transfer, and hence picture quality, is superb.

Also the best sound you are going to get out of Sky is DD, none of the HD codecs, so yes it will be better, but sometimes the difference between 1080i & 1080p is very hard to spot.

Not a film, but the full series of Planet Earth is cheap and utterly incredible on Blu Ray

The Searchers (John Ford) is an awesome transfer, and a great film, too. Unforgiven, also, really looks sharp. I was disappointed by the transfer of Bonnie and Clyde, thaough still a great film. Sunshine is also a great movie, and even better in blu ray. 2001 looks great; but skip the actors in chimp suits: )Avatar is a ridiculous movie, but my son said it was better on blu ray than 3D in the cinema. Agree with everybody about Sherlock Holmes, too. I've bought Bruce's London Calling live in Hyde Park for my old ladies' birthday tomorrow so I'll see what live concert footage is like!

I watched the Fall las night on DVD on a CRT screen, it looked pretty amazing, so on blu ray it should look great. Not that I'm likely to find out for a very long time, sits, twiddling thumbs waiting for a backlit OLED panel to come to market with a decent image processing engine and that is acgtually affordable ...... waiting ...... waiting .....

I can't wait for Follow Me to be released on Blu-Ray, most of us on here must be looking forward to that!
