I have just recieved a Blackberry 8520 with 100 mins calls, 500 texts and 5mb of data per month.

I had a Blackberry 8 years ago and often used the BM service as this leaves your SMS quota intact, just using a small amount of your monthly data allowance.

When trying to use this feature on my new handset, i get a message saying the service is not supported. A call to my service provider reveals that I have to pay an additional £5/month to get this feature to work!?

Am I being mugged off here? Is there a way of getting this working? Does your provider charge you £5/month. Seems like a con given that I have 5mb of data included in the contract.

The salesman who sold me this had a bit of an attitude when I cancelled another number on my account. I am switching to another provider for reasons of cost. He banged on about how his company, unlike all the others, was completely transparent about the monthly charges. I don't call that transparency! Omissions such as this are as bad as lying!

When will the government make it law, forcing Telcos to get a clear signed agreement before entering into an agreement with users?

Maybe I should just cancel all together as I hate being mugged off by these greedy Telcos!

Any adivce from Blackberry users who have their own contracts would be most welcome!

Never saw the point of the Blackberry Messenger, far as I know you can only talk to other BM users, which is, uh, no-one.

I installed Trillian on my (work's) Blackberry, works a treat. MSN, AOL, ICQ, Yahoo, etc etc.

yup you need blackberry BIS @ £5 month.

BB user.

Edit: Is it included in your plan, but not activated on your phone. This happened to me I had to call Vodafone to activate BIS.

I use O2 and pay £30 a month, this it includes the blackberry data as a free bolt on. 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 500mb and the blackberry data which also includes unlimited wifi

I'd ditch em if I was you or pay the extra £5
