Gf has just bought a nokia e63 rather than a blackberry because the lady in the shop said it was just as good and you can still set it up to get email alerts. Neither of us have much idea about phones so not sure how true this is and google searches for comparisons bring up bedroom bloggers with not much to say about either. *sigh* any opinions?

I've got the E71 which is the next one up, the main difference between the two is that the E71 has GPS built in and the E63 doesn't!

It does depend on which Blackberry you were looking at, if you can find some of the review sites and then compare the facilities between the two phones.

Heres a review from Cnet whose reviews I like reading on the E63, note what it says about the E71 being its big brother, it would have been the phone I would have gone for between the two and you can get it on 3 for £18 a month at the moment.

Yup I second that, so disapointed in the camera over my old Sony Ericsson P1i

But the rest of the phone is so god that I'll live with it.

If you have unlimited internet included in your contract, look at nokia email messenging. It will then alert you like a blackberry when you receive an email. Easy to set up and i use it to push my hotmails to me nokia e71.

It works if you connect via contract wap, gmail/yahoo can do with contract internet. And make sure you have a non-network-messed up handset. Plain old E71 is great, install Opera Mini and away you go!
