We will be in touch
Not us (thankfully) but next door neighbours, who were coming & going with a family illness to see to. Got in the house via a bedroom window & took Lynnes jewellery but nowt else as they stayed upstairs cos they seemingly knew that downstairs was alarmed but not upstairs (tis now)
Anyway last night, 10.45pm, a bloke was spotted trying van doors (looking for toolery I assume) & challenged by a neighbour then legged it (in a van) The perp was caught on CCTV by a guy round the corner who's an HGV mechanic, trying one of his doors, & to cut a long story short was followed across town by said HGV fitter in his Transit (who by now was totally breaking the law by phoning the police while driving!) Anyway he lost the vehicle at a roundabout but got the reg no. to the police along with a description of the van the perp was in.
The question is, in the meantime, is it 'ok' to post a description of the van & reg no. on Faceplant now that the police already have it?
He, (the potential perpatrator) hasn't actually nicked anything from our street (yet) but was blatantly out to do so.
Worth posting it to spread the word or not?
BTW, this area has had little or no crime of this sort in the 9 years wev'e been here.
If he wasn't caught in the act and the police didn't pick him up with a van full of stolen gear then they won't do anything anyway.
I say post away.
Maybe talk to the police and see what they say? If you live in a relatively compact neighbourhood, you could always talk to neighbours or consider posting paper fliers through doors assuming your main aim is to warn people of the danger. Â That way you reach the people you need to - they won't all be on FB - and avoid the whole social media circus effect. But i f you're worried about how it relates to an ongoing investigation, talk to the police.
I would say do it.
As much as Avon and Somerset police like to say they were "running an ongoing investigation" against the pikey little motorbike theft gang, in reality they did **** all until it all kicked off on FB, the culprits' names and addresses published and threats of reprisals from biker gangs and the public started appearing. Funnily enough, they suddenly started making an effort and within a week they were all arrested and charged.
Social media can be used as leverage to force the police's hand if they are not acting in the proactive manner they should be. Don't be afraid to use it.
Definitely post.
