Hoping someone has some knowledge/advice on this-
I want to reduce my 5 day week to 3 or 4 days a week. Reason is i have been offered 1-2 days work in another company and want accept the offer. What is the best way to do this? Do i have any legal rights to ask to switch to part time? Any advice really welcome - i want to make this change but don't want to make myself jobless in the process! 🙂

I don't think you have any right to part time working.

The best way would be to speak to your manager and, if possible, provide a couple of advantages to the company of you working fewer days (probably best not to mention the other job though)

You can request flexible working if you have children under 10 (I think), but your company don't have to honor it. My contract specifically outlaws moonlighting, so might be worth checking the small print..

Do you work in marketing or sales? If so, simply bring a poorly stuffed dummy made from old clothes and hay into work that vaguely resembles you and place it in your chair while you're not there. This will convince the management team that you are working away while moonlighting on the other job.

You may have to accept overtime for the times your dummey is spotted there after hours but it's a hard life, eh?

Just be careful your dummy doesn't start getting promoted ahead of you.

All employers are required to at least consider an application for flexible working. Make sure your justification includes benefit to the company for a better chance, like wombat said.

take a pay cut and work less
or work 5 days a week in your current post, and work the weekends for your new employer!
