If Adolf Hitler flew in today
They'd send a limousine anyway ......
Magnificent 7.
Sits back with a smile ....
Has the makings of a good thread this ......
It changes regularly but I often come back to this one:
+1 on London Calling
Safe European Home or Stay Free, depending on my mood
can't believe its 8yrs.
Always on in the Club juke box at the Edinburgh College of Art in the early eighties.
Complete Control
In this order.
1) Stay Free
2) Stay Free
3) Stay Free
There are so many classics my choice changes constantly (IMHO they are the best band ever!) but if I had to vote today it is Train in Vain
All of them. Except side 2 of Sandinista.
Basspine, always found side 2 of sandinista sounded better after a couple of jazz woodbines?
Train in vain, or (ducks) lost in the supermarket. Then again, I fought the law always does it for me. Thought they lost their way with most of sandinista though.
Thats got to be the toughest question ever asked on a forum.. Screw what tyres for abseiling or some otther sh1t..
London Calling? Jimmy Jazz? Revolution Rock? **** why not the whole of London Calling.. Or what about Armagideon Time or Straight to Hell?
But Im going for this 'cos it just plain rocks..
Interrupting all programs..

Complete Control
(from when I was about 15)
you know, I think he's right
- or hateful, maybe
Maybe not the most popular choice but
Guns of Brixton.
Way too hard a question.
"Stay Free" and "Train in Vain" are such beautifully crafted songs.
But "London Calling" and "Guns of Brixton" are just so powerful.
If I had to choose just one, it would probably be Stay Free.
1, just one?
guns of brixton
guns on the roof
julie's been working for the drug squad
janie jones
Spanish Bombs
Brand New Cadillac
Know Your Rights
English Civil War
London Calling
Guns of Brixton
Armagideon Time
Bank Robber
so many good ones, I couldn't pick a single one.
[*]London Calling b/w Armagideon Time: Christmas morning 1980 ('81?) sat on my bedroom floor playing one side then the other over and over on my Dansette style music system. Awesome!
+ Tommy Gun
Train in Vain
Complete Control
English Civil War
And
and....
A dead heat between Complete Control & Hammersmith Palais
Train in Vain FTW
English civil War
1. london calling
2. white riot
3. police and thieves
+1 Complete Control
My fav 3.
This is England - not strictly The Clash I know and I think I'll prob be alone in liking this but I ****in love it)
Bankrobber - used to listen to it all day as a kid on one of those old drop down record players that you could switch to repeat.
Dub be good to me - prefer it to guns of Brixton
impossible- can't be done: too too many to pic one. All of the above have put my tiny mind into overload. Not even gonna try , it just cannae be done!!!
I've no idea why this was my favourite, nobody else ever suggests it so I guess it didn't strike a cord for many others (note: not had ^ a mention , as per usual), but I played it (and the album) constantly as a teenager. I don't think there is one duff track on that album.
Spanish Bombs
Best Clash song?
The last one I listened to.
R.I.P. Joe cant believe It's 8 years already . One of the best bands ever .
+ 1 for ton's list
Straight to Hell
Rock the casbah
White Man In hammersmith
My fav 3.

The first two definitely but I'd add Hammersmith Palais and Hitsville UK
just when you feel old .. someone pops up and reminds you how great it was to be young way back when.. The Clash.. always the best. ( closely followed by ACDC, Rush, Hawkwind..)
impossible- can't be done: too too many to pic one. All of the above have put my tiny mind into overload. Not even gonna try , it just cannae be done!
I was going to say that, but I'd have to go with London Calling. Or maybe Tommy Gun, or er, English Civil War. No, Death or Glory. Hang on, gota be Train in Vain. Or White Man in Hammersmith Palais. or...
Today it's Death or Glory / Stay Free / Police and Thieves / Julie's been working for the drug squad / Bankrobber / and still Train in Vain
+ 1 for ton's list

Seems I've just listed the tracks from 'The Story of The Clash', but to be honest any of those could be the best, can't pick one above the others....
Death or Glory has to be up there, of only for the nuns/church line.
Can't believe no one's mentioned Death is a Star......
'Makes a grown man cry like a girl, to see the Guns dying at sunset......'
A toss up between White Man & Complete Control.
Tommy Gun or Safe European Home for me.
White man for me, as it was about the first time i saw them live. Had to skive off school to make sure i had it the moment it came in through the record shop door.
I wonder if the actual answer to this thread is the same answer that Desmond llewellyn (Q) used to give when asked: Who was the best Bond?
His answer was: the first one you saw.
Therefore my favourite Clash song must be White Riot.
1977 or Capital Radio or Pressure Drop
My one attempt at downloading songs illegally; I chose what I thought was one Clash track, and a number of hours later had every song they had released.
I felt so guilty that I never downloaded anything else.
Rudy can't fail.
Best line.................
1. King Solomon never lived round here
(Is that HMG in one sentence or what?)
2. Where is magnificence?
They said it was out here somewhere
out on this road.
(Ain't that life?)
