Looking forward to it but no idea what to expect!

My wife's sister converted to Islam many years ago, and her second-eldest daughter (so my niece-in-law?) got married in June. We were invited to the smallish Nikah ceremony (nr Gloucester) in June, and soon we'll be going to the bigger Walima in Manchester where the groom's family are from.

Any first-hand experiences of Walimas, please?

No, but my parents were guests at a work colleague of my Dad's wedding some 30 years ago. That was a Sikh wedding, I think they did a full day but the whole thing lasted about three and they still talk about it. My Dad wore a western suit but my Mum was helped out by the family and had a tunic and trouser sort of thing made for the occasion by a family friend.

I love a wedding and would love the opportunity, would be fabulous. And the food! Far better than boiled chicken and overcooked veg!
