Lastminute etc are expensive and loads seem to be routed through online 'agents' that add lots on. Any recommendations for central(upto Camden) area??

Loads of B&B's in Kensington. In Camden you have enough decent places to spend a night you won't need a B&B. BTW Towards Camden Road Railway Station there was, probably still is, a pie cafe, worth a visit. Near the motorcycle shop/garage.
