to post up the email exchange you've had with a seller, who may or may not be a subscriber to this forum, regarding the purchase of an item that shows them to be a liar? In a public service announcement sort of way, to warn others off dealing with the person in question I mean.

It's got to the point where it's almost comical but the radio silence is annoying and the lack of evidence (courier name and a tracking number) of the items in question having been sent despite me being informed that 'they're on their way' is speaking volumes...

edit- can I report it to the police? The person has taken my money in exchange for goods that haven't materialised after all.

I'm still wondering why your last thread got deleted. People are usually allowed to pitchfork those who have crossed them.

Apparently, the user in question, has form for this....as in shit gets dragged out.

I'll just post my usual thing: If you have time to list it, then you should have time to post it.

Can't see they're even going to notice being named and shamed, tbh, but go ahead...

I'd post on the FS thread as well in case others check their history.

How come, tho? Because the seller is a regular? Seems a bit harsh, if the buyer cannot get redress any other way?

Not as if it's the first time...

Right, ok then. I think I've been polite and patient in my emails. My emails are in plain text and mboy's are in bold. I left the text verbatim other than removing email addresses, home addresses and phone numbers. Here you go-

Hi,

Can I have the "Sun S-Type rims built onto Formula 20mm 6 bolt front hub, and Shimano Deore M525 6 bolt rear" with tyres, tubes and rotors please? Are you happy to do them posted for £80?

You can indeed!

Whereabout are you incidentally?

How would you prefer to pay? PayPal gift is easiest for me, or if you'd rather can do a bank transfer or even an old fashioned cheque.

Hi Mark,

Ta! I'm in County Durham so it's a fair old trundle down to pick them up. Can you send me a PP invoice to

Yes, the wheels are on their way. I know that it was late, but I tried to send (as explained to you) middle of last week, but could not send them without your phone number. On Friday I got your phone number. Couriers don't pick up on Saturdays or Sundays, so there was nothing else going to happen til today. I can't do anything else to speed it up!

Why have you now cancelled the payment?

Why have you been mouthing off on STW forum?

I'm not the best at email correspondence at times I will admit, I'm generally too busy for my own good. The last 3 days have been spent almost entirely in bed with the flu though (just after I'd finished building my new bike so I haven't even had the chance to ride it!), so you'll understand I'm more than a little upset at your personal attack on me on STW.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for getting back to me. It's unfortunate that, although you were able to post messages on STW you were unable to answer emails. I'll take each point of your email in turn to keep it clear:

"Yes, the wheels are on their way. I know that it was late, but I tried to send (as explained to you) middle of last week, but could not send them without your phone number. On Friday I got your phone number. Couriers don't pick up on Saturdays or Sundays, so there was nothing else going to happen til today. I can't do anything else to speed it up!"

That's great, thanks. Which courier service have you used and can I have the tracking number please? You (finally) emailed me last Friday, a week after I paid, for a phone number for the courier. That's not 'the middle of the week'. The thing you could have done to speed it up would have been to have treated me like any other paying customer. Just because I'm the thick end of 200 miles away does not mean that I'm any less important to your business than somebody who walks in through the door.

"Why have you now cancelled the payment?"

I haven't cancelled the payment. I opened a paypal dispute (which I couldn't have done had the payment been sent as a gift- good job I didn't, eh?). I will cancel the dispute if/when the wheels arrive and they're as described. Don't worry, I'm not about to rip you off or try to pull a fast one. It seemed the best way to elicit a response from you.

"Why have you been mouthing off on STW forum?"

I found the parts you were selling on there. You have other parts for sale on there too. It seemed prudent to perhaps warn other STW users that you're not a very reliable seller. I will post up an apology if/when the wheels arrive if you like, that's not a problem at all. Far from what you now think, I'm actually quite a reasonable person.

"I'm not the best at email correspondence at times I will admit, I'm generally too busy for my own good."

That's not my problem and it's not the best way to run a business. If I ran my business (yes, I'm self employed too and I make and sell motorcycle and bicycle parts) like you appear to run yours I'd have gone out of business- people would have just stopped buying from me. As it is, I'm in my fifth year now and have a (generally) good reputation for timely post and keeping people in the loop, so to speak. You have to make the time to email people even if it's to apologise for not having had the time to send their stuff yet. Generally, people respond better to a stream of communication than having to badger the seller for information. That's some (hopefully taken as) genuinely friendly advice from one small business to another.

The last 3 days have been spent almost entirely in bed with the flu though (just after I'd finished building my new bike so I haven't even had the chance to ride it!),"

Again, that's not my problem. I'll refer you back to the 'being able to post on STW but unable to email' thing I mentioned previously. I'll not probe too deeply as to how your flu abated enough (those lemsips are great, aren't they?) to go for a ride out in the freezing cold with your GF on Saturday when she came off on black ice, it's about halfway down this page-

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/dark-side-just-fell-off-on-ice-advice-on-tyresriding-style-etc

"so you'll understand I'm more than a little upset at your personal attack on me on STW"

There was no personal attack. I just posted up facts about our transaction.

As I've said, if/when the wheels turn up I'll cancel the paypal dispute and post up an apology if you like. No hard feelings from me. You should take the advice about communicating better with paying customers on board though, and if you do try to use the 'flu as an excuse next time at least be smart enough to not post about a ride out over the time you say you were 'almost entirely in bed'.

Michaela

If he sent it via myhermes in the Nwest they had a distribution center fire. Maybe he didn't select insured and is doubting you? Weird though as mboy doesn't seem to be bad and if paid via goods its hardly scammy. Hope he's OK not had a fall.

The ill bit may or may not be true, but the time he was purportedly 'almost entirely in bed' he was actually out, so he says, on a group ride out where his girlfriend crashed on black ice. He even posted in a thread about it-

his post is about half way down the first page.

Nah, just saw the other two had gone, so figured it was topic verboten and would go the same way.

In answer to the OP, I'd probably wait a little longer before launching a full nuclear assault, given that this is the busiest week of the year for parcel deliveries.

It doesn't strike me as being quite in the same league as some stuff that has been put up here for pitchforking. Perhaps I'm just a bit too trusting, eh?

martinhutch- Trusting is good. It's the best way to view the world.

I'm frustrated because

a) I really could do with the wheels to finish that DMR!

b) When I take a payment for something that needs a courier I keep the buyer informed all the way with the name of the courier company and a tracking number. It's two or three days at the most between taking payment and getting the item collected. Hell's teeth, it's not even as if you have to physically take stuff to a post office any more!

Let's be honest even if it's the busiest time for deliveries it doesn't stop them from posting it and providing a tracking number at the least.

On a separate note don't think I've ever needed the recipients phone number when sending stuff via PF and it's always got there fine.

Time to crack open the Christmas Quality Street - could be a long thread!

I'm on kayla1's side with this - it should be 2 to 3 days max for posting stuff. If you're 'too busy' to get things sorted, then sell them at a time when you are less busy.

Yep, must admit I'd want a tracking number. But then, I can't help but sense a breakdown in relations between you two over the past few days.. 😀

Is this guy a professional trader, a private seller (as the ad suggests), or a mixture of the two? I wouldn't expect wiggle-style turnaround from a private seller, so I'd probably leave it a little longer before starting one, let alone two threads on here and slating him on his fb.

I've had stuff not dispatched from shops for a week or two before I start chasing. Perhaps that's not the way of the world any more.

This! If you can't post it in a reasonable time, don't sell it. Or, if something comes up, let the paying customer know and keep them informed.

Maybe, but loads of sellers on here state that in their 'for sale' ads so you can't single mboy out for that. This should be a lesson to you all to stop being so tight and pay the extra 4% on top to cover the seller's fees (or take the hit yourself to show goodwill!) for PP cover.

I should make it clear, I think you will get your wheels, mboy just seems to be one of those people who sells stuff then forgets what is supposed to happen next. Which is, understandably, frustrating to the buyer.

martinhutch- mboy runs (owns?) a bike shop I think. I'm self-employed myself, there's no reason at all why I or anybody else who has paid for something shouldn't be shown the same courtesy with turnaround times as someone who has walked in through the door.

As Jamie's links say - mboy's form on this means that it's not about giving the 'benefit of the doubt' as far as inaction post sale is concerned - it seems to be his standard way of operating. Nothing happens until he gets outed then it's all wounded pride etc. It's a shame as I doubt it's malice, just an inability to actual organise posting stuff.

So, chronically disorganised then, but all those buyers ended up with their gear and happy. Still doesn't seem like a case for mass pitchforks, maybe a bit of dessert forks?

I hope that's the case. I can't understand how anyone can be that disorganised though 😆

As I said in my emails to him, if it turns out to be some huge misunderstanding I'll gladly post up an apology on here.

Why should you apologise to someone who takes your cash then take ages to post and gives you the run around,a slap seems more deserving.

I've had a reply through paypal, via the 'resolution centre', so it looks as if he's not going to reply to my email directly. Apparently the wheels were collected yesterday 'as confirmed by a colleague', whoever that is, but I still have no courier name or a tracking number.

Are people arsed enough for me to update this as it resolves?

Yeah, it's nice to know who's right to deal with or not.

whilst I understand a certain delay ... I'd be VERY unhappy about the blatent lies.

this.

I'd be at the 'tracking number or it didn't happen' stage because there's two weeks more procrastinating time available now.

A wry smile to Jamie's first link considering the identity of the first responder..

Good spot! I like this thread, particularly the in bed with flu bike ride. OP, do you want a job?
