Cows are vegetarian. And they taste yummy.

Yes, think they are all veggie.

Google is your friend for veggie recipes...I don't like having meat every meal time so often pick a random veggie dish as a change.

Lentil Dahl is nice and easy if you fancy a mild curry type dish 🙂

as far as i can recall, most pot noodles don't contain any animal products.
not sure "suitable" is a good word to use though!

got any preferences for meal types or specific ingredients for these nutritious healthy vegetarian dishes you'd like us to share with you?

nonk, pot noodles IMO are in the same group as doner kebabs. All logic and reason suggests they are a compleatly horrible thing and to suggest that they can be eaten is aweful! Yet, on the sneak, they do taste quite good!

aye, is right. About the closest a veggie will come to a decent meal, too.

AndyP, I'm not a vegetarian but I've decided to have a vegetarian week. a) To give my self an informed opinion on this cult attitude... b) to improve my culinary skill. One day I will have to cater for one and at the moment all I can offer is cheese cake, depending on how strict they are, or a some steamed veg! And c) to see if i can save some pennys and maintain a healthy diet; and before anyone says anything I was just wondering about potnoodles because my house mate was eating one and was sure I had heard all pot noodles are veggie proof

xherbivorex - see how this week goes! Maybe you could share some of your favorite veggie options?

Some Muller Rice are now veggie 😀 just have to check on the pot as not all are.

If you're making stuff from scratch then plain Tofu should be marinated in some spices etc. before use otherwise it's a bit dull. Lentils are not the devils food if you flavour them and get the ones that you don't have to soak overnight/cook for hours. Quorn is OK but controversial as it's manufactured, veggie mince is great in spag bog etc. Processed, Lynda Mcartney pies are yummy and some of the quorn fillets IMO are nice.

Almost forget - when feeding the 5000 "Pot Noodles are a bloody miracle"

ah, i meant the band Lifetime (which was Dan Yemin's band before Kid Dynamite!)... although yeah, obviously the other applies too!

anyway, it's hard to make a mess of a veggie curry- spinach and lentils being a particular favourite of mine.

IMO the main difference between vegetarian and meat is texture and if you can make whatever you cook have a good blend of texture and flavour then you'll be ok.

Chuckle at CFH

Also, I wasn't aware of the band 'kid dynamite', will have to check it out. I got the name off a very early bike.

I love cooking, probably eat meat in 70% of meals, though in the past it's been a lot less. The comment above about texture is spot on. Also I usually find cooking meat more gratifying than veggie because a) it's an easy centrepiece of a meal (easier to decide what to buy in the shop too), and b) it's easy to make a piece of meat very tasty, simply by roasting it in salt a pepper or whatever. IMO if you start off trying to replace meat with something (ie tofu) you're setting yourself up to be disappointed. Veg are full of great flavours and textures, but you have to treat them a bit differently.

Try roasting aubergines; artichokes a la grecque; and other tapas/antipasta type stuff. It can taste amazing and isn't any the worse for not having meat in.

You can make most curries, thai food, noodle dishes etc without meat, use chick peas or mushrooms instead.

Tortilla (spanish omlettes) are a nice thing to know how to make, good comfort food. Normal omlettes are a quick meal with lots of protien.

You can make lasane and canelloni without meat and it's just as good. Anything with mince in really - I always find mince a bit pointless and it smells gross, so if I was making pasta sauce I'd normally just use tomatoes and maybe some peas or mushrooms.

It's always good to learn something new, variety is the spice of life.
