Found a DJI drone on the Rangers path today, think it had been there a little while.

Undamaged, appears to be accepting charge.

Long shot but anyones off here? If so can I have the controller so I can use the thing! (joking)

It should have an operator id on it somewhere which would allow you to trace the owner. Bet it hasn’t…

Put it in the WEEE bin.

It was a weird day for random litter up there. I went round the horseshoe, there was a carrier bag of unused fireworks on Lliwedd and someone's council tax bill frozen to the ground near the top of the Watkin path.

If it’s got a camera and has no operator ID they don’t deserve to get it back…

Map, compass, whistle, head torch, council tax bill.

At least they set out fully prepared.

Probably got lost migrating south for the winter. Now it's charged, release it again.

Map, compass, whistle, head torch, council tax bill.

At least they set out fully prepared.

In event of hypothermia, read Council Tax bill and feel the white hot rage warming you up.

I didn't know this was a thing - I had to Google it as I thought that a sub 250 gram drone was something you bought and flew without any further 'paperwork'. It's a 4k camera jobbie

The only mark on the drone is a single digit scrawled on the battery.

I'm going to have a nosey at the SD card footage (!) and then potentially launch it into the WEEE bin at work.

It's not mine.

Just wondered if anyone else has a fantasy of whipping out a pump-action shotgun and shooting these things out of the sky when people are operating them at beauty spots?

Yes, I know that would cause even more noise and alarm - but it would be incredibly satisfying.

I expect there are people that feel similar about mountain bikers

If you actually are interested in returning it to the owner, it will have a serial number on it which will be tied to their DJI account (assuming they registered it with correct details!)

If it's a Mini drone then the serial number is printed next to a QR code on the inside of the battery compartment.

Yup! Even more so at crags. So annoying when you're climbing to have those things buzzing about in and out of range overhead, really distracting.

I didn't say steal it though did I? I said they don't deserve to get it back.  If you want to pick an argument with someone, try choosing a comment that might be controversial and then understand it correctly before getting on your high horse! 🙄

If you can't find the owner, why not give it to a youth group rather than put it in the bin? If they could buy a remote and pair it......

But yes, if they've not done what they should have done and put the operator ID on it, going to a huge effort to reunite it with the owner does not seem too necessary.

Apparently they are tied/tethered to their original registered owner hence possibly returning via the DJI website/support.

I found one a few years ago. https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/found-a-drone-how-to-trace-owner/

Handed it in to the police. They destroyed it after keeping for a couple of months.
You don't always need a remote. I was able to fly the one I found using my phone as the remote after downloading the DJI app.

Bet they used a confiscated shotgun.
