Elton is thoroughly rocking it from
Where I’m sitting. The rest I can catch up during the week I hope.

I've seen Elton live 9 times, with, the band he's on stage with. Apart from a few gigs in the 1980's where he was stoned, he's been fantastic.

Where the hell was Kiki - I was robbed of 4 minutes of my life?

Entertainment value from the old man 10/10 but I still prefer his album tracks.

Oooh maybe Dua didn't turn up.

You really can't argue with the blokes back catalogue!

War on Drugs were great.

Queens off the Stone Age perfect headliner.

and Weyes Blood was epic earlier today. Looked like a small crowd, though!

Sunday is a much better line up than previous days. At least for what they’re showing on the telly.

Given that someone else has mentioned her, I'll do a really shit humble brag....I was her guitarist in 2019 when she last did some full band stuff. Not sure Pyramid Stage is on her radar these days.....she is one of the nicest people I have ever met.

The old boy's still got what it takes.
A fitting end to a very full and varied career.

Wow, I'm impressed Tom.
Kiki has the most amazing voice. I've been lucky enough to see her on stage with Elton.

QOTSA - tight set, not too many new tracks, bags of energy, having a brilliant time. Crowd loved it too and so did I! Performance of the weekend for me - pissed all over other ‘rock’ acts…are you looking AM, FF and GnR? 😉

Due to a perhaps ignorant position, I can’t say I’ve ever taken the time to listen to QOTSA or War on Drugs, as mentioned in this thread. But coincidentally, both have played in the last couple of days at my (very) local venue, Piece Hall in Halifax.  The reviews were pretty stonking, so I fear  I may have missed a decent gig, that I could almost walk to…..

Just watching the War on Drugs set.

Absolutely ****ing brilliant!

They were at the Piece Hall last week.

Second time they've done West Yorkshire recently-ish.

Their albums are always playing at my houses.

Not got to hear Eyes to the Wind live yet, my fave.

Elton John was absolutely Captain Fantastic

FIFY.

It was indeed a great set... reminiscent of the soundtrack of my teenage years. Loved it.

Loved the Elton John set, particularly Philadelphia Freedom and the guest choir bits.

Chrissie Hynde sounds exactly as good as she did in the 80s. How is that possible?

Just catching up with QOTSA, bloody brilliant so far! Caught of the War on Drugs on 6music earlier, not previously on my radar, but sounds like they need checking out.

Back to CATQ - I had a longish journey in the car today and 6 music has been playing some of the highlights of the weekend. Including a couple from Chris

I saw the performance on Sat night and it was mesmerising, but rest of family was in bed so it was definitely sound down.

Listening in the car I had it up loud and it gave me the shivers. Again, just Wow!

Are they going to wheel on Paul McCartney?

I'd swear that I saw him and Dave Grohl having a scuffle at the side of the stage about who was going on. My money was on Macca for a knockout.  One of my daughters suggested that Elton looks like their grandmother. I suggested that he looks like Eddie Izzard, who also looks like their grandmother. 😀

My girls wanted Elton on, so I read until his pub singing got too much. Once he'd finished I put QOTSA on, who were excellent. I'm sad that I couldn't get tickets for Cardiff last Friday, where apparently they were even better.

There wasn't many big headliners that I was all that excited about seeing, but as usual with Glastonbury there was loads of hidden gems buried on other stages (some of which didn't make the BBC coverage).  I'll enjoy trawling through the footage for a while yet.

I have £10 on Taylor Swift headlining next year.

Not sure the odds will be that good, she's left the weekend free in her UK tour dates apparently

Picking up on what The-Beard said for me the thing about Glastonbury isn't necessarily the headliners but all the other stuff going on.

I've not been for about 25 years and I do toy with the idea sometimes, but paying over £300 when I'm generally not interested in the headliners just seems too much to pay.

I guess it's possible on the Sunday but Taylor Swift has got dates in Dublin already for Fri/Sat 28/29th June, and if Glastonbury was the earlier weekend then she's got 21/22 June in Wembley. There's not less than 4 days between locations on this tour, it takes a while to set up.

The 2020 booking was part of a much smaller tour of European festivals, with simpler staging.

it takes a while to set up.

Some of the theatre in the Eras tour has been amazing with the sets to go with it. There's no way she could replicate that on the Pyramid stage with a fast turn around.
She could still do a more conventional 2 hour set of her bangers though.

Enjoying QotSA on iPlayer at the moment.

I think I saw them in 2000 supporting AC/DC at the Milton Keynes bowl. Good then, good now.

It’s fun spotting all the influences of and on, and styles of other folk coming through.  Grunge generally and Muse of course, but also Roxy Music and Hawkwind.

@winston

LDR was 75% through an absolutely amazing set when she got cut off by the other stage curfew. I know it was her fault but really Glastonbury? GnR we’re still performing so it can hardly have been noise!

Stage curfew times are all agreed as part of the licence, along the with the process/procedure for overruns. They’re not needing to apply every year any more but the 10 year licence is up next year. She got the extra 15 mins right up to the hard cutoff, they should have just adjusted the setlist and aimed to have got the hits out before the end.

This.
Glasto’s Michael Eavis previously opened up about what happened when Bruce Springsteen overran in 2009.

The Boss ended up playing for two hours and 40 minutes, finishing just before 12.40am.
The owner of the 900-acre Somerset farm said he had to fork out £3,000 as a result.
But he said at the time: ‘I’ll pay the fine – £3,000. Paul McCartney – 2004 headliner – paid me back. I’m going to pay the Bruce Springsteen one myself. It’s not a lot because it was fantastic. The last nine minutes were spectacular.’

https://metro.co.uk/2023/06/25/is-there-a-curfew-at-glastonbury-and-have-any-stars-gone-over-it-19010532/

I'm amazed the fine is so small but it's a licensing risk more than anything. And if she was late on stage because of her hair it was absolutely her fault.

The Woodsies stage ran 30 minutes late from the first act on Saturday but it was the festivals fault - everyone got to play their full set (also it's in a tent so the curfew's a lot less strict). Leftfield started 10 mins late on Park on Saturday but I think they made up the time before FBS started.

Festival was as mind-blowing as ever. Atmosphere in the Elton crowd was electric - everyone from young kids upwards having the time of their lives. Right up there with Bowie in 2000 as one of the best Pyramid sets ever.

Highlights of the weekend for me-
- Gabriels
- Fever Ray (friend warned could be 'challenging' and we might be making an early run for late night ents but I'll be booking to see again
- Sparks was a lot of fun (though one of our party left saying they'd confirmed themselves as a novelty act for him)
- Charlotte Adigery & Boris have a great on stage presence (again, will probably see them at EoTR and have booked a London gig)

Biggest regret - probably missing Young Fathers set but couldn't make it work. Also Sudan Archives caught her at EoTR last year (and solo with a loop box in a little tent at at Field Day years before that)

Really feel sorry for some of the acts that got billed while Elton was on. One of our crew went to Shaun Ryders new 'Mantra of the Cosmos' project (which would have been on my 'must check out' list at any other time - his interview on 6music last week was promising). Apparently there were about 23 people in the audience which was probably part of the cause of the lacklustre performance. Likewise Mica Paris played Avalon to a few hundred at most (though consulate professional who put on a show that was really special for those few)

@b33k34

Not really sure what any of what you posted about Lana being cut off really says other than Eavis was happy to let Springsteen overrun because he really liked the set but that whoever was in charge this year wanted to make a point with Lana and probably thought she was a bit of a diva. The fine is clearly very small even if more than in 2009, the fact that many of the other stages overran due to other issues but carried on potentially risking fines licensing issues and the fact that the main stage was still going kind of just points to the Glastonbury management being annoyed with Lana because she threw her toys out of the pram prior to the festival because of billing and then rocked up late. Tbh I wasn’t there so had no skin in the game other than it was the only set I was really looking forward to (though WOD were pretty good) but I thought it pretty harsh on the audience. Still like many point out there was a lot of other good stuff going on all weekend for those that paid to see her.

My cousin was the tour manager for a band where the lead singer was going out with LDR.  My cousin thought she was very hard work and the lead singer was heading the same way.
