Looking for a mobile for the wife that she can use Skype on. Just wanted to see what phones others are using. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I believe that most 3 contracts/phones support it.

tbh I've never tried with mine, don't really have a need

The three phones sort of have Skype, but if what you use Skype for is free calls from abroad over WiFi, they are no use. The Skype that three have only works over their network - if you use it abroad, it will coat a.fortune in roaming data charges.

Old symbian phones have proper Skype over WiFi ( Nokia n95 does at least).

If I use Skype on 3 it does not use data transfer to connect the call, only to log on and use the chat. If You call someone it dials a local UK number and than it is just like phoning another mobile number.

Symbian phones are fine for skype over wifi. Not as clear as a computer but good none the less.

Use something like Fring if you are a social media junkie or there is some skype specific apps out there as well.

Also depends on the network. I know that Orange lock some features down and you have to reflash the phone with non propriatry operating system (which is free but a pain)

I use it on an ipod touch. Obviously this requires a wifi network, but it is very good, and I used all last summer to call home from abroad for about 1p/min.

Use it from an iPhone when I want to call the US from home. Works out a lot cheaper and is just like using the normal phone.

i did hear mention that Skype will be charging for using data networks (s opposed to WiFi) from sometime soon.

I have used it on iphone over wifi to call austria. works as well as a usb microphone on a pc does for voice.
The latest version of skype for iphone enables you to use it over 3g free until the end of 2010, after that there will be a "small monthly fee".

Which also means you can't use it abroad without paying a fortune, which sucks, compared to proper skype over wifi.

On Android phones, fring does skype over wifi, so you can use it abroad for free, but because you have to go through two networks, call quality is not as good as using a proper skype client (the only skype client is the three one, which doesn't do skype over wifi either).

Just stand near a McDonalds or other such establishment with free wifi. My nokia touchscreen phoney thing can do skype.

You have to find the wifi before opening skype.

I loaded Skype on my Windows Mobile (HTC HD2) this morning, although the Windows Mobile version isn't available from the Skype site at the moment (iPhone, Symbian, Android and Blackberry versions are).
