The Mrs is after a new car(7-8k) and likes the look of the Seat Leon we took the 1.6 version out for a test drive and she thought it was great.
I want her to go for the FR diesel version, are there any known problems I should be aware of?
Cheers.
I've got an Ibiza FR diesel & its been very good for the last three years.

the 8v 1.6 is a bit basic and is expensive for tax, but if its the FSI i believe they're quite nice.
I think the diesels are good to go for as they don't need the frequent cam belt changes that the petrol ones do.
On the FR diesel beware of the DPF farce! Google it for plenty of horror stories - saying that the wife loves hers and I admit it is quite good fun to drive even if quite a hard ride.
We've got the 2.0 TFSi - be wary of air con woes. If yours does go - look for non-Seat parts, most dealers will tell you they don't exist! Turned a 1200 job into 550.
yeah read up about the DPF theres lots of chat on honsetjohn about it.
nice cars but have one of the worst looking dashboards in history.
Thanks guys I will investigate.
DPFs aren't (so much of) a problem if you know they are there and make sure you treat them well.

Diesels are every 4 years or 80,000 miles
I have a Passat diesel with a PDF (same engine as Seat), hateful things they are, mine kept giving me the light of doom, in the end I got the great guys at work to open the thing up & jetwash it out & then seem weld it up again, but that is a whole lot of work if you have to pay for it...
It's still not as torquey as is should be for a 170bhp diesel, but the light is no more!
I've got a 57 plate FR tfsi - I drove both the petrol and diesel. I didn't want to like the diesel but was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty noisy from cold but once warmed up was fine. The dpf issues did worry me slightly, although some people seem to have a lot of trouble, whereas others have none. You can have it deleted and chipped which also gives a big dollop of power increase, but some people have had problems with this too. Only other thing to watch out for is injectors failing. You're looking at anything up to 900 quid if one goes! That's main dealer though. I only do 10k a year so decided on petrol and found one with the DSG box, which I love. Google seatcupra.net For all you want to know
I drive a Leon Ecomotive as a work car. It's quite good really.
