Hi All,

I'am after recommendations please 🙂

I have decided I want to learn to Kite surf.....maybe this is need to..

My friend and I are looking for a short break somewhere warm with a good kite surfing school.

Good coaching most important factor (Many years ago I was a windsurfer, and surfer, but i'm sure I've forgotten all of that... plus my friend is a complete beginner).

We'd be looking to go in late August

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Andy

Sorry, I’ve no personal experience of the schools, but the beach and conditions are well suited to all abilities. There are many camping options also along the beach, with Playa de los Lances being the main break. The beach goes out in flat ledges and has a good offshore breeze picking up in the afternoon. Swell is rarely huge but clean and consistent.

These guys on Fuerteventura, really top notch instructors who will get you from beach launch to Water starts very quickly indeed, sign up for IKO 1-2-3 and do it properly.

I did mine there, it was awesome.

What I'd do is get lessons here first, then go on holiday. Do you want to spend a holiday learning to kite surf, or a holiday actually kitesurfing?

Good point, let’s promote a great bunch of lads in Beadnel Bay Northumberland.

Thier futures so bright, they need to wear shades.

Plus 1 on the get lessons here, you could be up and riding in a couple of weekends, or an alternative suggestion while you wait, 1 buy a trainer kite with a bar, one like this practise flying it till you know where it is in the sky with your eyes closed. Then 2, find a cable park and learn to wakeboard and start off both ways, right and left leg forward, it'll provide a good base from which to develop when you get behind a big kite.

There are plenty of good schools here in the UK and the weather has warmed up now, so really nothing stopping you, as to where to go, Egypt, Hurghada is cheap, the Canaries, Cap Verde, I wouldn't wish Tarifa on anyone it's got a ferocious wind and is crowded.

Thanks All, much appreciated...

The original plan was to learn here (Edinburgh), but we might go sun seeking as part of it - easier to do a solid week than broken weekends....

All to be decided.... interesting comments on Tarifa, doesn't sound beginner friendly...

Thanks

I wouldn’t bother having lessons in uk - the conditions are too inconsistent for speedy learning. Definitely learn to fly a training foil kite with a bar before you go but I learnt in Mauritius and Cape Verde where you the wind blows F5 or 6 consistently all morning or afternoon or all day. So you spend your lesson learning kitesurfing not about watching for the right wind / weather window. Plus the weather and sea are warm and you don’t have anything else to think about.

I could sail windsurf and fly a kite before I started soi learnt to get up and riding quiet quickly but I still find the power of the kite exhilarating/ terrifying and riding upwind hard in uk conditions
