Got some patches on my shins, anyone recommend some stuff to put on. About every 3 days it itches like buggery.
Go to your GP. Ask for 'Dovonex' ointment which contains Calcipitriol (sp?), a synthetic form of Vitamin D. (This is the same stuff sunlight produces in your skin which is why sunlight helps clear up Psoriasis.)
NB: Avoid anything steroid based - it just makes everything flare up ten times worse when you come off it.
My sister gets it. Used to suffer quite badly in her teens with it.
Dovonex rings a bell...
She also used to us e45 cream I think.
Friend of mine recommends giving up, or eating less, dairy produce...
Avoiding dairy and hot showers might help. e45 might be ok but it has a lot of other stuff in it that some people are allergic to. Try Oilatum cream, you can get it from Boots. Not really 'medical' but it stops it drying out and will help the itching.
Yep I have a prescription for Dovobet from my Dr.
Then I use e45 or any skin cream, particularly after a shower/bath.
I've noticed mine seems better after sunny weather so it may be related to a Vit D deficiency (this winter I'm trying multi-vits with vit D to see if they help); there can be many reasons behind psoriasis so you need to find out what works for you.
@Darc L: Dovobet is the same as Dovonex, but with a steroid element too. Apologies if you knew that - has it caused you any flare-ups? It worked brilliantly immediately for me, as the steroid reduces the redness of Psoriasis too - but it unleashed hell when I stopped using it (which you are meant to after 2-3 weeks).
Sunlight is great. The UVB rays in sunlight slow down the skin production - this is why phototherapy (UVB only sunbeds at a hospital - not the normal ones which are UVA) also work wonders.
Tried the Vitamin D supplements, but found this made no difference - apparently the body can't store it.
Main trigger for me is stress, followed by alcohol. Also tried cutting back on dairy produce. Like Darc-L said, you need to identify your trigger.
It is basically an auto-immune issue, and likely to be something you are genetically prone to.
MrsT has it. Her skin is clear atm but unfortunately that is due to the medication she is in for the arthritis which can be associated with psoriasis. She has had all the potions over the years, some work, some don't 🙄
One of the drugs she is on cost circa £10k per year and is toxic, she has to carry a card to that efffect ❗ However it has made a huge difference to her quality of life 😆

Bit extreme.
I'm covered in Psoriasis.
Just been re-prescribed Adalimumab (Humira) a biologic that treats it. You've got to be really bad and tried pretty much every lesser treatment before you can get on it. It's really expensive but clears me 100%. An injection pen every 2 weeks. £400 a pen I think.
The downside..I think I'm playing with a loaded gun. You don't really want to mess around with these drugs if you can help it!
Psoriasis really ruins my life.
Stuart
