Bought one a few months ago. TD4 XS love it but bit dissapointed on the average mpg figure.
currently 30mpg arount town rising to 40ish on a good run.
Is this the norm?

which engine?
I have a FL 1B (series 1, but with some of the silliness fixed. Still called a gaylander down the pub round these parts though 😉 )

I get about 35mpg on average out of it. 2.0L TD4 common rail. It's a good engine.

Ah the Bmw designed, Rover with a Citroen/Peugot engine, built by scoucers for an indian company.

Its a big thing to drag along the road and not that aerodynamic, switch off the aircon, and when stopped at trafic lights, drive at a steady speed dont exceed 60 mph, dont accelerate hard, dont use supermarket fuel, take anyting not needed out.

The series one td4 was a BMW engine up to 2006 with permanent 4wd. The freelander 2 has a pug engine and a haldex diff on demand 4wd. The beemer series one is the one to have apparently if your an enthusiast as with all landy's there are snags to ownership etc.

I had the earlier one, effin-tank, can't imagine it got better by so much that it was enough.

We rarely get over 30mpg combined in our auto HSE version.

My wife has a 56 auto TD at 90k.

Whatever you do, do not use supermarket fuel - now 3rd set of injectors...

And 30-33mpg seems the norm, and it will also run a set of front pads between services, so keep an eye out.

Big jump in running costs

Dunno what ours does in mpg (we're metric here in Oz), but it's on board computer reckons 7.9l/100km. That's a mixture of city, loooooooooooong drives, twisty roads and a decent amount of dirt too.

I suspect it will drop when we put some proper wellies on it, but compared to the alternatives for what we use it for, I doubt there's anything that can touch it.
