Not used a PC for a while but I used to use adaware and spybot.

Microsoft defender is pretty good but just be warned, lots of anti-spyware products simply can't get rid of the cleverer ones permanently. It takes someone who knows what they're doing a fair amount of time for some stuff.

[i]Most[/i] of the time the correct approach is something like:

- disable Hibernate and System Restore (nastys like to hide there)
- boot Windows into Safe Mode
- run full system scans using virus scanner and anti-spyware (like Spybot or AdAware, or both)
- reboot into Normal mode
- re-enable System Restore and Hibernate.

As GrahamS says, suspend sys restore run, [b]SpyBot,Adaware[/b] and [b]Malwarebytes[/b]. After this i'd run [b]HijackThis [/b]and post results on a forum dedicated to analysing the logs. good luck!!
