OK, so I am moving house on the 26th of this month.

The house I am moving to needs a complete refurb and if possible I might knock the end wall through into the main living/dining room (subject to survey, of course...).

And I will need a new kitchen as it is old and in a very bad state. And there will be no cooker or white goods.

As this will take a while to sort out I was hoping that I could just go and buy a number of integrated units, like this washing machine for example :

with the assumption that they should fit into whatever kitchen I eventually get - lego like.

(probably diy-kitchens from recommendation on here).

For the cooker I was thinking of getting a standalone unit as they don't seem to look as out of place in a kitchen and putting normal white-goods under the counter.

Does this seem a reasonable idea ?

And particular recommendations for white goods/cookers/ovens/hobs that I should be thinking about - seeing that I (or a fitter) will be fitting them into a kitchen later?

Most are standard sizes, but it does depends on which Kitchen you go for. Ours (Kuhlmann) asked for the make/mode/serial numbers of appliances and built the surrounding units to an unbelievable tolerance.

They didn't mind whether they were old or new appliances.

each to their own but it would never occur to me that kitchen appliances would look out of place in a kitchen. You'll have a significant reduction in choice and less flexibility.

was thinking that but looking, for example, at ao.com and there is quite a lot of choice - albeit the units have a little less capacity.

But in terms of envisaging what a kitchen will look like from showrooms and catalogues the integrated units way seems less risky as they all use those - if I go standalone units I run more of a risk of spending good money and ending up with a kitchen that looks 'bitty'.

At least many of the examples I have seen in customer photo galleries with standalone units look a little compromised compared to the slickness/uniformity of the integrated ones.

What's the hurry? While the kitchen is being done you only need a calor gas stove, a bucket and tap...
Integrated units look far better than stand alones, washing machine especially, though capacity will probably be compromised. If you have room for a deep worktop you could just have a freestanding behind a door.
If you have a separate utility room, keep the washer and drier freestanding.

Kitchens with washing machine and drier on display do look low rent.

need to get a fridge and freezer fast for the cat food - I feed them that raw stuff !

other than that I could make do with the laundrette and a microwave and a small fridge - but if they are standard sizes I might as well order it all in one go.

Kitchen is 8ft5 across so I don't think I can go with extra deep worktops, but will order once I am in for next day (ao seem to have good stock).
