Do they exist?
My HTC phone uses that Beats Audio shite thingy but I want to control how the music sounds with Beats turned off
Any ideas or recommendations?

I use something that's showing up as "Music Volume EQ", pretty sure it was called something else when I installed it.

It works fine whether Beats is enabled or not, and rather than being a standalone music player with built in EQ, it also works with stuff like Youtube and Spotify. And it's free.

Dunno if you can use it on other makes of phone, but the Sony Walkman app has an equalizer that you can tinker with until your heart's content.

Google Music doesn't have the equaliser on my phone but it used to
I think the update to Android 4.1.1 has killed my music apps. Bollocks

I use a superb app called EQu, which has made a pair of Beats Solo HD phones sound musical, and put decent bass into a pair of Etymotic ER6i's, but sadly it doesn't appear to have an Android equivalent; I did find this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tbig.playerpro.soundpack
which looks like the closest I can find.

AnEq is only 5 band but equalizes all output, rather than being tied to a player :

My phone has a custom rom on with Harmon Kardon audio tweaks. Sounds ok to me with headphones and frickin awesome using the dual speakers (HTC One M8)
