my 3G modem has a microSD slot that is useless to me, if i plug it in before my USB external HDD it just takes the first available letter (G) which is normally the letter for the external drive which itunes uses so needs to keep it's G: path

is there a way of assigning a different letter permanently to the modem card slot? Disk management is a pain in the ass every time as is having to remember to eject the reader as a device before plugging in the HDD

or is there a way of blocking the card reader part of the modem which identifies itself as Globetrotter GI4xx - mass storage

ta

Plug the USB stick in.

Right click My Computer, go to Manage
Select Storage, Drive Management.
Right click the appropriate drive.
Change drive letter and path to what you want

Does that work for you?

How about a BAT file containing those commands that execs as part of your startup?
e.g. http://www.wikihow.com/Change-a-Drive-Letter-in-XP-Using-a-Batch-File

is it possible to tell itunes that the library has moved without completely reinstating the library?

didn't think it was as simple as changing the library folder location in itunes settings as this just dictates where it puts new files

that'd be the ideal solution if possible but i don't want to have to completely reinstate the library as its 100Gb+ of tracks and would take ages and being itunes no doubt lose half of them

only the once though please I'm not deaf you know 🙂

it should nt be a problem, I can't remember exactly where you change it -think it's in prefernces or something, i moved my father in laws a few times. in his case I copied off the c drive as it was full and moved it to an external drive and just changed the path letter in itunes to reflect that. it all opened fine.
