With the news that our 'cousins' have burned Quran taken from prisoners, do you not wonder whether they've not learnt anything over the last 10 years. I assume it must be part of some clever plot 🙄

How about this crazy idea? Maybe the Taliban have spread this rumour to create this situation. Wouldn't be the first time.

well the Americans have already admitted they did it so not crazy at all

while I've no doubt the taliban are happy to use the propaganda the us seem to need no help in doing stupid things in afghanistan
(even after the deaths caused by that nutter pastor burning korans in the us last year)

And if folk are going to get so worked up about something so inconsequential, what hope is there of acheiving any sort of satisfactory outcome there anyway?

Ok didn't realise that, but this "The Korans – used by former Afghan detainees at Nato’s Bagram air base – were among rubbish taken to a ‘burn pit’ and recovered by Afghans working there. " puts it into perspective a bit.

They were, as a matter of policy, burning the property of ex-detainees at the camp - not the brightest thing to do when it includes the holy book of people that are decidedly religious in the middle of a decidedly religious nation.

I have inside information so to speak - the detainees were using the books to smuggle messages between cells, they got found out and the books were siezed and secured in the only safe place they had at the time which happened to be the incinerator. It wasn't lit at the time apparently but has been since!

Every single American in Afghanistan, from the Ambassador right down to Shonikwaa who operates the milkshake machine at the Bagram Airbase Dairy Queen lined up and confiscated a koran from an Afghan detainee before throwing them onto a giant fiery pit. All around them flaming crucifixes illuminated the night sky whilst Slayer played a cover version of Disco Inferno.

Later on everyone gathered around to sing 'America, **** Yeah' in an utterly non-ironic way before pissing themselves laughing as they imagined you crying yourself to sleep under a pile of soggy Guardian editorials.

It's nothing personal believe me, that's just what ALL Americans are like. All of them. Except Cher, she's lovely.

Was discussed on Radio4 this morning and they'd asked some imam bloke how one should dispose of a Koran in an "approved" manner. Turns out that one of the approved methods is to burn it (and then sprinkle the ashes into flowing water). So they weren't too far out after all 🙂

Unfortunately, due to an administrative they asked David Bowie's wife, chaos ensued.

They've got an image of the phone interview on their website now.

Has anyone videoed it? I'd pay good money to watch all that.

The koran along with all religious 'teachings' should be burnt.

Apparently, it's O.K. to burn old Korans if they're reduced to ashes and the ashes dumped into flowing water, according to Islamic "scholars".

Incredibly, some people say it's all a load of mumbo-jumbo....

If they burnt all religious paraphernalia, then maybe, just maybe, the world would be a better place.
