My IT illiterate sister has bought one and is trying to connect to her mac. It is saying that connection is wireless only, is this correct. Can you not connect via USB also?

To do what?

You can mount it over USB, it appears as an external device like a USB key would. You can't use the USB as an Internet connection.

Dunno about the Mac side of things; maybe she needs to manually mount it?

Press the button that looks like a keyboard then. 🙄
It's just left of centre.

If I remember correctly if its new you do need a wifi connection to register and activate it. After that you can then use it as a USB device to load books.

Not sure about using it with a Mac but the one I bought for my wife was unregistered when I plugged it into a PC to drop a load of PDF's onto it. It just appears as an external device like a USB drive.

To get PDF's onto it you can just email them to your Kindle email address (which you can find out on the Amazon web site) and put CONVERT into the subject line. Check the manual, but I think this is right and formats them so they work on the Kindle just like an eBook does. I have done this but always put CONVERT in so not sure exactly what this achieves.
