and of course the incomparable Richard Cheese
Dusty Springfield - Spooky (Classics IV cover)
Didn't realise this was a cover version until recently, sound quality is not great on this but check that early 70's styling.
The Milk Carton Kids - "Wish You Were Here" (Pink Floyd)
I also like this version of the Pink Floyd classic. Some good live versions by them also on you tube
I heard this on Radio 3 yesterday. An Early Music style arrangement of Leonard Cohen.
This, including the video, was one of my favorite discoveries of the last year. Hot 8 are ace, and the story behind them is fascinating.
I did a pub quiz one time, and my music round was cover.
Point for the artist singing, and point for the artist who did it originally (no point for the song name)
Some gold in here for a repeat of that round.
Ive got a lot i could submit for review, but this has been absoloutly melting my mind recently.
Master of puppets, as Muse, but more Muse than Muse.
And also, anything by Leo Moracchioli is pretty great too.
Never knew this was a cover of a Joan Baez song, until I heard Joan Baez on the radio today
Jannis joplains cover of kriss kristophersons "me and Bobby McGee"
Heart covering Stairway to Heaven
"Almost heaven, West Jamaica..."
Glen Campbell - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)
Local high school concert had a group do a mandolin / vocal cover of Taylor Swift's Love Story.
Superb!
Being a reggae fan there are more folk that want to sing reggae than write songs and over the years there have been some very odd reggae covers.
Doctor Pablo's cover version of the Dr Who? theme tune is sublime
I've got ar mint condition copy of Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah's cover of the Neighbours theme tune - its in very good condition for a reason:-)
Dead Kennedys being as phenomenal as ever.
Holy poop, that Julien Baker FRabbit cover is incredible!
In a similar vein, I adore this (But Elena Tonra can do no wrong in my eyes)
Absolutely love this. Frank Turner also does a great cover of The District Sleeps Alone Tonight which I love. Can’t bloody stand the Postal Service but they did write some fantastic songs. I should seek out more Postal Service covers
Haven't heard the Frank Turner one, thanks!
Unapologetic Postal Service fan here. As such, it came as a big surprise that one of my favorite discoveries of last year was one of my other favorite bands covering them. I feel so conflicted.
LOVE this.
^ gotta say, The Bamboos play tight as f___, impressive
Can't be bothered looking to see if they've been mentioned before or finding links to them but:
Dream On by The Mission
Heard It On The Grapevine by Credence
I Put A Spell On You by Toadies
ticks the boxes. Don't know why but I love this
apologies if someone already said this one but this one (song to the siren this mortal coil)
The Fall - Lost In Music
Hope it’s not a repost but this is what I chucked in the mix when the subject was raised at the office the other day.
This is easily in the top 5 of all covers.
was the highlight of one of the rock against racism gigs i went to... stiff little finger with tom robinson band and the clash playing Johnny Was.
…
In case anybody thinks what Roger Waters is doing to this song is a good idea.
And we're used to Fairport and All About Eve doing this, but then...
Blue eyes crying in the rain..
Origonal:
Cover played by Wille Nelson and Shania Twain:
I just found this. Fabulous soul version of dazed and confused.l
Anything by Hayley Reinhart gives me the tingles.
The history of the 007 theme tune is quite interesting. It was originally written for a musical called The House of Mr Biswas, set in Trinidad and sung by an Indian character - it has lyrics
I was born with this unlucky sneeze
And what is worse I came into the world the wrong way round
Pundits all agree I am the reason why
My father fell into the village pond and drowned
