Jonny cash hurt is a classic. Loads of great covers done a bit differently by scary pockets. Some real talented musicians in their line up. Also see pomplamoose. The guy on the keyboards, Jack Conte is a talent, he invented Patreon.

The history of the 007 theme tune is quite interesting. It was originally written for a musical called The House of Mr Biswas, set in Trinidad

I never knew there had been a musical of the book (novel be V S Naipaul). Intiguing,

NB the actual title is "A House for Mr. Biswas"

Jorgen Dahl Moe's version of Dancing in the Dark. Might not be for everyone, but I like it.

This

What's remarkable is that she had such an amazing talent, and then just disappeared from the music industry almost overnight. She's done nothing since and apparently lives a simple, quiet life in Ireland somewhere.

Sinead actually recorded two albums, Who Do You Think I Am, in 1995, and No Mermaid in 1998, and I was lucky enough to see her play, in July ‘97 at the Reading Hexagon, supporting Joan Baez! Saw her again in September 98 at the Jazz Café in London, headlining her No Mermaid album. Such a great songwriter, with a great voice, and a really sweet person too.
It would be lovely if she decided to release new music, other songwriters have vanished for years, then suddenly released new songs.

Holy poop, that Julien Baker FRabbit cover is incredible!

I’m familiar with Julien’s work, via boygenius and Phoebe Bridgers, but I wasn’t aware of that Frightened Rabbit tribute, so thanks for sharing, I’ve rectified that now!
Also, the downbeat cover of ‘Downtown’ by Anya Taylor Joy is rather lovely, I’m familiar with her as an actor, she’s terrific in ‘The Gorge’, but I didn’t realise she could carry a tune that well! That’s been added to my music library now as well. 👍🏼

I doubt many will consider this to be a great cover version.  For context Marc Maron is a comedian whose girlfriend died suddenly and unexpectedly during lockdown, so this song was very emotional for him.  You can see it towards the end of the song.

So, when does a song become a cover? Here’s one unusual example; Elvis Costello has often worked with other musicians, writing or Co-writing songs which they would record, an example is Aimee Mann and ‘The Other End Of The Telescope’. He then later recorded an album called ‘All This Useless Beauty’, which contains his versions of the songs recorded by the other artists. Which, then, is the cover?
Really, the ones on ‘…Beauty’, but they’re all excellent songs. Elvis supplied backing vocals on Aimee’s version as well.
